I need help. I've become a pro with the little cuticle scissors when the babies are sleeping to get their finger nails, but toes are a whole new issue! They don't like me messing with their feet when they sleep so they try to jerk away from me. It was ok until now b/c really I only had to trim the big toes and that was only twice. Now all of them are starting to grow. Help! Those things are so tiny...and I'm scared! Is it a two person job?

I did and still have to do toes one or two at at time when they sleep. Any more than that and I wake them up.

I'm pretty sure that the Moms who have more than just twins (I'm not knocking only twin mommys, just trying to share a little experience...) will tell you to just grab that little foot and HANG ON until you are done, and then you are done... and you move on. You are bigger than they are!!! Clipping toenails does not need to be an olympic event... just get the little snippers and get it done  .

It's what I do... I've done it since they were babies. I just put them down on the floor or on my lap, grab the scissors, grab a foot/hand, and get going. Yeah, they move, but if you give them a toy while you do the feet or sing silly songs, they don't really pay attention to what you are doing.

I'm chicken and have DH do it  He's got shakey hands but a more gentle touch. All in all, he's nicer about it. And I am still terrified at the thought. I'm so clumbsy I'd probaby cut a little toe off or something

I basically do the grab hold and clip. GOod luck! Fingernails I will do it while they are nursing.

I grab and hold and sing the Thumbkin song while I cut each toe nail (finger nails too). My girls are now getting so much better about letting me do it, but as babies they would cry and I would do it quickly.

I found these clippers with a light on them at BRUS and they are fasinated with the light so they lay pretty still when I do their toes because they can see the light. Their fingers are another story, but it still was worth the $5.00.

I use cuticle scissors too!!! I found them to be so much easier then nail clippers. :) :) :) I"m glad i'm not the only one!

The only way I have been every able to do their toenails is first thing in the morning. My boys are slow wakers so when the first one wakes up I put on cartoons (and they are still in their sleepy
haze) and I have them on my lap and clip away. I normally have the death grip on their foot and bottle near by just in case.

Oh and when I mean first thing in the morning - it is usually within 10 minutes of them waking up (OH FUN let me tell you!) - sometimes I get lucky when I change their night diaper in the AM and they could care less what is going on - I try then too.

    Good Luck.

I use regular adult fingernail clippers and do finger nails and toenails while breastfeeding. If they get fidgety, I give them a chance to calm down, and if they don't, I go with the grab and hold technique.

never used scissors or clippers, we use a nail file - its so much easier and no worries about cutting someone!

Oh yeah and we do it after we feed them, so they are in their highchairs, and playing with toys.
