How do they sleep when they are congested

I have been driving myself crazy thinking that the reason my DS, Jack, isn't sleeping is because he is unhappy with his miracle blanket, sleep positioner, or the actual position he was sleeping in. Putting him on his tummy worked for yesterday but now he won't sleep either way or the other. He has a cold and today is more congested than ever. I am assuming that is why he won't sleep. I had him checked for an ear infection but he does not have one. He screams everytime I lay him down no matter how I lay him down. I guess it is as uncomfortable for them to lie down with a stuffy nose as it is us. They problem is, I can't get him to sleep in his swing, bouncy, or car seat either. Any ideas?

Where do yours sleep when the are not feeling well???

i haven't had my twins sick yet but with my older 3 i used to hold them a lot while they were sick. have you tried a sling or carrier? i have the snuggle carrier and it is great for those fussy days. but kind of a pain if your little one is heavy.

    Lots of love!

Mine have their first colds too, so I know what you're going thru! We're holding them a lot, but ours will eventually settle down in their car seats. Have you tried sucking the mucus out (with a bulb) or a steam bath to break the congestion up? I wish I knew something more to help!

When they were smaller, we put them in a bouncy seat in their cribs or let them sleep in their swings. Now, they are flat in their cribs :( We just got over a cold at my house and I put a humidifier in their rooms, put saline drops in their noses...they actually slept on their sides and stomachs the whole night, which actually helps the stuff drain.

I hope your little guy feels better soon!

We are going through the same thing!!!! Wyatt will not get comfortable when we put him down. We've tried a humidifier, cough meds, nose sucker...everything. The last two nights I have had to let him fuss in his swing until I knew he was tired enough to sleep in any position. We still attempt swaddling him and putting him in a positioner...not sure what is the problem his cold or those things. Jackson doesn't seem bothered by his cold.

We just got over colds, and I found that propping them up in their boppys while swaddled helped a ton.

Saline nose drops help temporarily. Sometimes long enough for them to get to sleep. Unfortunately, when mine are really stuffy I tend to sleep half sitting with them on my chest. Not much sleep for me but it's the only way they will sleep!

Oh - I just thought, you can try putting something under the mattress on one end of the crib to elevate their heads a bit. Sometimes that will help. I hope they feel better soon!

Bouncy seats - I know you are not suppoed to let them sleep in them, but what else do you do? Oh - and sometimes the swing. Good luck - colds just stink!

I put a Sudacare / Pediacare Vapor Plug in the outlet in their room. I give them Tylenol Cold (sometimes Benadryl for the evening but only since they were 6 months or so - they had 1 minor cold before that age). I use the Rub for their chests, put them down early and hope for the best. Most of the time they sleep well anyway, although the wake occassionally for a few minutes here and there. I feel the more sleep they're getting they sooner they'll feel better, so I often put them down extra early to compensate the lack of sleep due to restlessness.
