How Do I Make Him Stop Dribbling On Purpose?

My little guys have finally figured out the sippy cup (I think). But, my good sipper for some reason has started to dribble out his liquid after he gets it in his mouth. It's fun to him. He gets water everywhere and soaks his bib and clothes. I've tried different sippy cups and regular cups, and he does the same thing (he hasn't gotten the hang of a straw cup yet). I've taken a break from the sippies for a day and the next day he just started again. I tried to tell him "No, don't do that" but I don't know if he understands. What should I do? He doesn't drink much from a bottle either so going back to the bottle doesn't seem like it'll work.
Has anyone else encountered this? Will it just pass?

I have to LMAO cuz I am in the same boat! My boys will take a big gulp and swish it around in their mouth and then dribble out and squeal with joy! I just keep telling them NO and taking the cup away. They can now understand what cup all gone means and sometimes they stop. Consistency is the key. GOOD LUCK :p

ETA: I would not give him 3 tries to stop (as suggested below). Otherwise, he will learn he can do things that many times before he has to stop. Just something I learned from teaching dd. :)

My ds has been doing the same thing! We have started taking the cup as soon as he lets the liquid pool in his mouth and not swallowing. If he is thirsty, he'll fuss a bit so we give it back and say "drink it right and you can have it". If he does it again, we go through the same thing. If he does it a third time, the cup is gone for good. Don't know if it's going to help or not but we'll see. Either it will help or he'll just outgrow it.

Well, now my other guy is doing it too, and he figured out how to use the straw cup and does it with that too!
I've been doing what PP mentioned but nothing has worked yet. I'll keep trying. Wish there was a magic cure to so many things. ;)

I don't have an answer for you mine do the same thing ;) Mine even gargle their water lol. I do not allow them to dribble or spit their milk in the highchair... I take it away and give it back after a few minutes.

Just take it away and be done with it for that time. He'll get what he needs the next time or if not - the next time. Mine LOOOVVVEEEDD to do that, but have sorta forgotten about it for now! :hug99:

I agree with pp. Take it away. Ryan occasionally does it and I always take the cup away.
