How do I know when she is ready to PT?

I am so not ready for PT but I am listening to others tell me one of my girls might be ready. S is constantly taking off her diapers, waking up in the morning with an almost dry diaper, and this morning she decided to paint the walls with poop! Yes, she was sticking her hands down the back of her diaper and wiping it on the wall! gross!

She knows what a potty is (from books) and she does say it on her own but I dont think she is connecting the need to go with the potty.

What are the signs are readiness?

I got the potties out around 18-20 mos because I thought they were "ready"...Ian was telling us when he was pooping, Abby was peeing on the potty if you put her on there and you know what - they trained when they were 3...2 weeks before their 3rd birthday Abby told me she wanted to wear panties, and that was it - she peed on the potty from there forward and only had 1 poop accident before putting it in the potty! Ian was a completely different animal - we took his diapers away about a month after his 3rd birthday and he pee trained in 3 days - poop took another 3 months!

Here is a potty training quiz. Maybe that will help you decide. It sounds like she might be.

We PT around 2 years old. When the kids showed interest in the potty, and talked about big kid panties, we knew it was time. I bought two bjorn potties, and one weekend, we protected the couches and carpets with plastic, and let them go naked and took them to the potty as often as possible. They learned by the end of the weekend, though we still had accidents. We still put them in diapers/pull ups at night until they seemed to be ready to night train. With DD, it happened pretty quickly. With DS, he's still in pull-ups at night as he's a heavy sleeper.

I did that potty training quiz (twice..for each boy) and the one they said was ready is doing GREAT! The other is still hesitant, but at least willing to wear his underwear now. I would start by getting potties (or seats for the toilet) and start talking about it with her.

Cohlee-that's great!!!! good luck with PT-ing! btw-I found mornings were a sure thing for peeing in the potty, espcially if they are waking up dry.
