I am having the hardest time with him and eating. He spends forever sucking on the slow flow (we use playtex drop in bottles) and seems to get no where...it also puts him to sleep. I use the fast one and he gets a lot at a time but also dribbles a bunch. He is two months old and is doing this weird thing where he won't take the bottle. It is like he rolls his tongue around and pushes it back at me. I can't tell if he doesn't want it or is just being difficult or what. If I work at it he will eventually take it sometimes and other times he actually screams and it is obvious he won't take it. He is also doing this new screaming in his sleep when he is napping thing and I am wondering if it isnt from gas pains from the faster nipple. I try to burp him the best I can but sometimes I don't get anything.

Anyway, how do I know which nipple to use. DD uses the slow flow and sucks down 6oz. in no time flat. DS was doing this two weeks ago until he went on this eating strike. At first I thought it was frustration with the slower nipple and now I don't know.

    Thanks,
    AMy

Well i don't have an answer for you but hopefully everything will get lined back out soon for your little DS. I have kind of been wondering the same thing about nipples, I have tried the stage 2 a couple of times on my slow eater and she is definitely not ready for it, but we use platex vent-aire and the stage one is to small & stage 2 is to big. good luck. missy

I went from 1 to 2 at 3 months and from 2 to 3 at 6 months. That's what it said on the nipples and I just tried around that time and see what happened. My boy was always (besides his first few weeks on level 1) on level 3 because he had rice cereal in his bottle.

I poked a bigger hole in the slow flow nipples and it's helped a lot. Mine dribble a lot w/ the stage 2 nipples but sometimes the 1 stage gets backed up. Also - make sure you shake the formula for a while- it helps it not get clogged.

Amy, I know I have asked you this before, but does he have reflux? It really sounds a lot like what my babies were doing, and they both had reflux. Jake spit up some, and Emma rarely did, yet they both had problems with it, to the point that they eventually stopped eating until we got their meds straight.

Not to scare you but do you think he might have reflux? My son was a terrible eater between 1.5 and 3 months - he went on strikes, screamed at the sight of the bottle, etc. I ruled out reflux because he wasn't a big puker (unlike his brother, Mr. Projectile!). Turns out he had "silent reflux". He was on meds for 2 months and now he's basically fine (still a little fussy, but eating).
