I need to buy some materniy clothes because I am not fitting anything. I am barely through my 3rd month. So how do I know what size to buy and with twins do I add a size up.

    Thanks

I mostly bought things that I thought could 'grow with me'.
Stretchy fabrics/dresses/sweats that went below my belly etc.
I bought jeans and other items as needed :good:

Since I am constantly outgrowing my maternity clothes, I would tell you to buy slowly, buy what you need for that season, and buy things that are stretchy.

I have a bunch of button down shirts from my previous preg. which dont close, even in an XLarge size, because they dont give at all, and the way I am carrying it just doesnt work.

When i went to buy a maternity outfit at 22 weeks, i told the lady in the store i was wearing a 6-8 before the pregnancy, and so i got the smallest size pants. i figured i would need to go up in sizes, but in my last trimester they still fit just fine and im wearing DH's tshirts with them. Apparently the only place i gained was my huge belly.

  5. I just bought maternity clothes that fit me then and they streched with my Belly, their were a few that I had a little bigger and wow by the end I filled them out but really they will strech with you. Just buy the strechy jeans and stuff

I agree w/ stretchy clothes 100%. Woven blouses, etc. were a joke after about 6 months. Also, don't go hog wild on clothes at any given time. Like mentioned, buy a little at a time. You'll be surprised how quickly you can grow out of things! And jeans? Fuhgetaboutit. Not even an option for me anymore. :( Either too tight, too low, or falling off. *sigh*

I am convinced drying my maternity clothes is shrinking them

I bought my normal size and that got me from week 16-now (20) and I can probably squeeze another 3-4 weeks in these. I have one size up from my previous pregnancy (i lost a lot of weight in between) so I am getting them out to see how far I need to expand before I fit in them. If I grow out of those, I am hitting MuMus R Us.

One thing I did notice, skirts and dresses in my current size seem to be roomier than the pants.

I lost a lot of weight before I got pregnant with the twins so initially my old maternity clothes were too big. I only bought a few things to get me through which was a good decision because I am at a point were even some of my bigger old maternity pants are no longer comfortable. I am 28 weeks, but measuring 39 weeks along and I'm living in stretchy pants and stretchy shirts. I also bought a bunch of dresses from Old Navy to get me through to my due date. I hated dresses with my other two, but this time they are just so much more comfortable.

I definitely agree on buying fabrics that stretch.

I'm still in the original pants I bought if they had a full panel - I like the one from Motherhood. My pants without the full stretch panel don't fit anymore, luckily I only bought one of those. I also bought one pair of yoga pants from the Gap with a fold over waist (kind of look like maternity pants) - those I bought in one size larger than normal.

For shirts, definitely stretch and buy a little at a time. Now, I have two maternity shirts that I wear. Besides that I've been wearing shirts in bigger sizes - usually 1-2 sizes up. I found that the issue is getting the shirt to cover my belly.

Thanks for making me feel a little less crazy! I am 11w2d and the stack of "clothes I can no longer wear" just keeps growing and growing. Kind of like me. It's getting hard to hide the bump at work, at least I think so anyway. I will be out shopping for maternity clothes this weekend, so this advice is great.

Initially in my first trimester I put two of those pillows they give you into my outfits. This was more accurate. I found sometimes I LOVED the full panel pants /capris and other times I wanted the ones that go below the waist. I found the fold down/below the waist ones were great for after the babies are born and you are still in the maternity clothes. Sometimes a nice cotton stretchy dress is nice to wear around the house. I agree with buying a little at a time. By the end I was into the tent top.

With my first child, I wore pretty much size M maternity, maybe a few L towards the end. With my twin pregnancy, I bought some Ls, but quickly realized I just had to buy XLs to grow into, so I wouldn't waste my money. They were a little big at first, but towards the end I could barely fit in them! I was glad I did that though. You don't want to keep buying more maternity clothes throughout your pregnancy. Motherhood Maternity's secret fit belly pants had a great full panel stretch, that was comfortable throughout my entire twin pregnancy. They never got uncomfortable.

I didn't try to buy anything that would last through my whole pregnancy. Every month or so, I bought a couple more things. I was in size M at the beginning (I'm 5'4" and normally a size 8), but by the end I was in XL and even then, there was only one pair of pants that fit. Those were a pair of stretchy rayon pants from Target -- well worth the $20. ;)

ETA: Ditto about buying stretchy fabrics. I got some maternity clothes from a friend who is about the same size as me normally (and had just had a singleton), and the blouses and jeans she wore at the end were already too small for me by 6 months. Plus, things that don't stretch just aren't proportioned right for the twin belly.

I also got a lot of hand-me-down clothes in sizes 10-14 from my SIL. The pants were all too long, and I didn't look very stylish, but it got me through the first 8-10 weeks without having to shell out for anything new.

I was at work one day and looked out my window and saw a lady in a pink mumu. I kept wondering if I would get to that stage and if I should ask her wear she shopped. LOL

I stopped wearing my non-maternity clothes the next day.
