how did you introduce Santa?

Dh grew up believing in Santa; I did not. But we agreed to compromise back when I was still pg, that we'd do Santa & if they ever directly ask us if he's real we'll tell them the truth.

So I have no idea how to do this. The other night we read "Harold & the Purple Crayon go to the North Pole" .....dd kept pointing to Harold & saying "Is that Santa?"

 

i would find a book with a santa in it, and point him out, not to mention the santa at the mall will be a great opportunity.

 

I think it's funny that I start to think about something, and you post it. I can't tell you how many times this has happened recently!!

We were at the mall last weekend and Santa was already there. I used it as the opportunity to get the conversation going. I doubt mine will "get it" this year, but I'm already talking to them about him.

 

We haven't made a big deal of Santa either way. Neither DH or I has any idea whether we believed in Santa as children, and although we think it's a nice story, we don't really want our kids to believe it to the point of being hugely upset when they find out it isn't true. So I guess we're about where you are on that.

So, if we are reading a story that happens to have Santa in it, we'll identify him and say "He brings presents on Christmas." But we have also been upfront (so far) about the fact that the presents in our house come from specific people. (Though I don't know if they really remember last Christmas at all.) I'm not sure what we'll do if they start asking us whether Santa actually brings them presents.
