How did you deliver?

I'm curious about the stats of vaginal deliveries with Baby A and then having to have a section for Baby B. My Dr. and peri both stated I'd be a good candidate for a vaginal birth if Baby A turns vertex. However, I'm curious how many experienced difficulties then with Baby B's birth. The thought of having to go through both types of birth somehow doesn't appeal to me. ;)

So how did you deliver and if you chose a C-section with Baby A being vertex what was your reasoning?

Thanks ladies, I'm just trying to work this all out in my mind! :)

My twin A was breech so it was a c-section for me. IF he had been vertex, I would have gone vaginal.

I'll give you the short version. :) Induced at 37.1 due to pre-e. 14 hours of labor, FINALLY I was dilated enough to push. Baby A was face up so with each contraction and push they tried to turn her, with no luck. After 1.5 hours of pushing (now 5:30 a.m.) we decided to do a c-sec. She wasn't budging and I was DONE.

Baby A vertex, baby B breech. Had a difficult vaginal delivery before due to large size (9lbs+). Hospital/doctor is very experienced with breech extractions. Baby A came out after just 5 pushes and baby B was born 4 minutes later by breech extraction. He was in a little distress at birth but recovered very quickly (Apgar 5/9). Both came home with me 2 days later. They had average singleton size weights, but were 12 days early. Overall, a very quick and smooth delivery.

I'm a twin and I was born vaginally and my twin was a c-section.

I was vertex, my brother transverse breech up high in the uterus. I came out quickly--mom likes to call me her "one-push baby." almost 40 minutes later, after several attempts to turn my brother, his placenta detached and came partway into the birth canal. At that point, they did an emergency c-section to save my mom's life as she was starting to hemorrage.

Girls, what's a bridge extraction? How do they do it?

My babies were breech & transverse, so I had no choice about having the c-section. I really wanted a vaginal birth before we knew the positions the babies were in, but I could tell my dr wanted me to do a c-section anyway. She didn't really push it, but she did tell me in her experience that baby A is born vaginally & then baby B is c-section......which makes the recovery for mom a lot tougher.

I had a c-section, planned. My first was a c-section so I chose not to go VBAC. My twins were breech and transverse and Baby A did flip to vertex the day before my c-section (MAN DID THAT HURT! :shok:). I think if they are vertex I would give a vaginal a shot.

Both of my girls were vaginal. Meridith was head down and face down, Ashley was face up. Meridith came out first, and they used the vacuum on Ashley because she started panicking.

Both my girls were breech, so it was a no-choice C-section.

Girls, what's a bridge extraction? How do they do it?

A breech extraction is when the OB puts his/her hand/arm in your cervix / uterus, grabs the feet of the baby and pull them out, feet first. So the largest part of the body (the head) comes last, which can be tricky. However, since baby A has already paved the way, it's considered very doable and safe for 2nd twins. Epi is highly recommended, also in case something goes differently and they need to perform an emergency c/s for baby B.

Both babies were vertex at 37 weeks so I attempted an induction. I wouldn't dialate at all after 13 hours so I opted to have the section. I do have to add that the 13 hours was not horrible pain the whole time it actually wasn't bad at all since I wasn't dialating and they kept me very comfortable.

Both of mine were vertex but I had a planned c-section at 36weeks because I couldn't take the weight anymore and my specialist reccommended delivery at 36weeks becuase baby A was growing faster than baby B. They were healthy little bugger thoguht. No NICU!! They are now almost 16mo old.

I was induced at 38 weeks. Both babies were vertex. I delivered baby A vaginally with the help of a vacuum extractor about 20 hours after the induction started. I had a semi-emergency c-section for baby B due to cord prolapse. DH was kicked out of the room for the prep but allowed to come back in. There was no way to predict the cord prolapse, but if I had it to do over again I would not change anything since having a vaginal delivery was important to me.

Vaginal for me. I too was concerned about the possibility of recovering from vaginal for A and c/s for B. Personally, I decided to hope for the best. I really didn't want a c-section, and would hate to choose that, "just in case." In my experience, everything went really smoothly, and I'm so glad that I was able to do it vaginally! I consider myself lucky...

If you do want the full details of my birth story, I blogged it: http://tylerandreagan.blogspot.com/2007/09...and-dallyn.html

my babies were head down so at the last minute i chose to do vaginal, but after 2 1/2 hours of pushing, we did a c/s. baby A was face up and stuck under my pubic bone, and she wasn't going anywhere. my recovery has been great!

For me, Baby A was vertex and Baby B decided to be a bugger and flip to breech at 38 weeks. I was able to deliver both of them vaginally. As soon as A came out, B flipped to head down. Weights were 6 lb. 4 oz. and 7 lb. Yes, my baby B was bigger than A.

I elected for a c-section, Liberty (baby A) was vertex and Leighanna (baby B ) was transverse. My OB was more comfortable with a c-section and so was I. My girls shared a placenta so I didn't want to put the girls in any danger. It just seemed easier and more logical to have a c-section.

My doctor wants to do a c-section for me because Baby B is breech. He doesn't want to chance turning him and causing any complications. He also doesn't want me having to recover from one vaginal birth and one c-section. I had a horrifically difficult vaginal birth with my son. He was too big for me, sunny side up and had the cord around his neck. The pain was unbearable and they vacuum extracted him as he was in distress. I basically panicked during his delivery and had to be held down because I tried to leave. Apparently that is a bad idea when you are pushing out a baby. LOL. I still pray for Baby B to turn. I will try to be tougher this time and not get up and leave. I will do whatever they think will be safest for my babies. I want them soooooooooooo bad!!!

I thought I was headed for a c/s because baby B could not make up his mind which way he was going to be...but luckily in the end he went head down, and I had a smooth vaginal delivery.
