DD is Genevieve I'm Jenn and my best friend growing up was Eve her mom used to call us Genevieve. Her middle names are Michael Grace for my brother and sister.
DS is Thaddeus, I'm afraid this story isn't so sweet, I used to work at an answering service and I was inserting a obit into the computer the guys name was Thaddeus Emerson and he was 100. I had never heard that name before and I loved it ever since that was about 12 years ago. His middle name is Orion Gene. Orion I just like and Gene is just about everyone in my family's middle name, my mom, dad, aunt, brother.

Dh and I just liked the girls first names and their middle name are family names (M's middle name is DH's late-mother's middle name, and A's middle name is my late-grandmother's name).

We fought and fought over names for 8 months! We didn't decide until after they were born and the hospital was making us name them! We just liked the names, no significance. If I had my way, we would have used my g-father's name for one of the girls and DH wanted to use his g-ma's middle name for one of the girls, but neither one of us got our way, so we just picked names that we liked.

I always loved the name Mekaila (michaela) since I was a little girl and always said I'd have a daughter named that and she got her middle name b/c I loved the meaning of her name as a whole Mekaila Grace means who is like God's Grace or who is in God's grace....and Jacob b/c we picked Jacob and Joshua if they were both boys and of the two we like Jacob and Russell b/c my DH's family alternates the middle names of Russell and Robert and DH is a Robert so it's time for a Russell

I always liked the name Joel, and we let the internet pick Roman's name. :D

Their middle names are family names, Joe's middle name is "Cutler" which is my dad's middle name, and Roe's middle name is "Conrad" which was Mark's dad's middle name.

we liked them :) they're not named after anybody. ( btw, just an fyi... our ivana is actually pronounced EE-vah-nah, emphasis on the EE. ) and we wanted the "older" twin to be ivana, cuz ivana and marina sounded better than marina and ivana lol and now their names totally fit!

When I was admitted to the Hospital in December on bedrest we went to the social security's top baby names site. We said every single top 500 girls names off the list, and wrote down the one's we liked. Then we voted and narrowed and vetoed until we were left with 2 of them. One of my girls has the middle name Nicole, which has it's roots in the greek word Nikeo which means conqueror. The other of my girls has the middle name LeeAnn, which is DH's and my middle names combined.

DH picked Morgan and my mom picked Ethan. This is all before we knew they were twins. DS's middle name is Jeremy (DH's name) and DD has my maiden name as her middle name.

my dh picked out sean raines when he was 17, said if he ever had a son that would be his name. halle (hal-E) i picked, and then her middle name choice is funny. right before he left for bootcamp (i was 6months pregnant) i told him we needed to pick a middle name before he left. on the way to pick him up from work i was putting her name with random other names in my head, and liked halle jayne. he got in the car and i said, alright what should her middle name be? and he goes, what about jayne? lol. it wasnt even on our list of names to pick from! i wanted not so common names, and i dont hear hers alot. sean is pretty common, but dh decided that! now we're talking about what to name future children! :)

We had a 2 minute conversation about names very early in the pregnancy at which time my husband pronoucned that I like yuppie names and there was no way we would ever agree on a name, much less two. :) So for the sake of harmony I propsed that we wait to hash names until after we knew exactly what we had to pick instead of having to come up with two girls names, two boys name, and deciding which of them we like better in the b/g case. At our sex ultrasound they couldn't get a good shot of A so my husband wasn't 100% conviced it was two boys. To make a long story short it wasn't until 7mo we got final - couldn't deny it proof. By then we had just settled into the not talking about it so we didn't.

Peridically I started trying out names in utero. "B, quit kicking me!" "A, mommy is trying to sleep..." "A, B what are you guys doing in there!?!?" And after a while the names just stuck. Towards the end when I brought up final names DH said, "You have already named them. Can you even imagine calling them something else?" He was right, I already thought of them by those names and so they were.

My first DD is Juliana Marissa. I babysat for a Juliana in college and thought it was pretty and not very common. Marissa is my middle name, but we didn't decide on that until after we had left the hospital.

We agreed on Margaux for our girl twin pretty early, just liked it and I felt like we needed something that kind of "went" with Juliana. Her middle name is Sophia, which I thought I would use for a first name, but we hear a lot where we live.

DH dismissed every single name I brought up for a boy (during both pregnancies), so we finally went with Joseph, his middle name. We call him Joe, which is boring as can be, but it totally suits him.

Well, we had names picked out before we got pregnant. (Tried for years.) Well, the day we found out DS was a boy, we tried calling him Andrew, Andy, and Drew. It just didn't 'feel' right! So we canned that name and started from scratch. We were at a restaurant having lunch and we started saying names out loud that we liked. We made a list of 5 or so that we both liked and then went from there. Now we have Jason. But we both sort of regret not naming him our #1 choice-Ronin. Everyone made a face when we told them what we were thinking, so we decided against it.

After we picked his first name we decided to give him DH's middle name- Day. (We always knew at least one of the kids would have it.) Then we realized that DS and Dh would have the same initials and we thought that was cool.

Then we found out DD was a girl. But I no longer really like the name we had picked out for her! (Too trendy.) I decided I wanted DD to have my initials since DD had DH's. So I started pairing names with my middle name and looked at meanings. My name means "queen" and Reagan means "little ruler" so I thought that was really neat. (My full name is Regina, so we do have the same initials.)

Sofia and Maia are my favorite names and they arent rhyming. My other favorite name was Mia but I didnt like the rhyming, Sofia and Mia blech.
The middle names have significance, they are both mythological goddesses. Maia Helene is because my g-ma is Helen so after her, plus Maia looks like me and I knew this from the 3D/4D ultrasounds I got. Sofia Isis because she moved Maia out out the way in the womb and lodged her head into the birth canal at 5mo and stayed there the whole time and Isis is 'Queen of the Throne'!! :D

ETA: Cool thread!!! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Orion!! If I had boys Orion would have been the middle name of one, the other would have been Nicholas after me!! :)

Sophia has always been my favorite name. I love the meaning of the name, "wisdom". DH was not too sure about it because it reminded him of the lady on the Golden Girls. But I would not budge~that was going to be her name no matter what. Her middle name is Eileen after DH's late mother.
We had a hard time coming up with boys name, it got to the point where we were deciding between Luke and Matthew. We even took a poll among our friends and Luke was the winner, so that is how he got his name. I love the meaning of Luke "Light" and his middle name is Robert after DH's late father.

DH and I each made a list of our name choices. Then we agreed on one name from each list that we both liked and that sounded okay together. DH's #1 name was vetoed and his second choice was Amelia. My #1 choice was Lily. Margaret was DH's grandmother who recently passed away and my middle name is Marie. So we've got Amelia Margaret and Lily Marie.

I had a hard time both times picking out boy names. My first DS is named after my uncle who was always like a second dad to me. It never bothered me that John is a very common name but it did bother me that he might be called little John or Johnny so i went on a mission to find a middle name that would allow me to use his initials. I read through so many baby books and axed so many names. Finally i ended up on Tyler, I ran it by DH he liked it too and thus we got J.T.
My second DS we went through so many names and every time either DH or i would axe it. At about 6 months pregnant we where driving somewhere and Blake Shelton came on the radio and i said "what about Blake?" DH said ok and the first name was picked...now to the middle name. We had a list of five going into my c-section by the time we got to our room after we had it narrowed to 3. The next day when the nurse came in to get me to write in the names and sign the paperwork for their birth certificates we still had not decided. So with the nurse standing waiting we once again started going through the names trying to pick one finally DH asked if we could just finish it the next day since we weren't' being released yet. the nurse said yes and turned to walk away and for a reason i still couldn't tell you i decided i had had enough and told the nurse to hand me the paper. Without a word to anyone i wrote down Morgan and handed her back the paper. DH waited till the nurse had left and then said "so whats his middle name then" He told me later he was so relieved that i made the choice because he was afraid we would be stuck forever and he liked the name i picked. He said he was pretty sure if we didn't settle that night we would took DS home with no middle name. I feel a little bad because he is the only one of our three kids who doesn't have a family name but i like his name a lot and hopefully so will he.
We had a list of about 10 for DD for the first name. I had a name i had picked out when i was young but when the reality of having a girl set in i decided i didn't' like it at all so we went thought the book and made a list the only requirement was the first name had to work with my middle name Belle which was also my great great grandmothers first name. . For some reason i wasn't crazy about any of the names we had on our list then one day i was watching breakfast at Tiffany's and it hit me, Audrey Hepburn had always been my favorite actress and i loved the name Audrey so I asked DH and he loved it so that was that.

I always liked the name Brad for a boy, so that was easy. My DS's name is Bradley and Ryan is his middle name.
Picking a girl's name was harder because there are so many nice names that I liked. I like ordinary, classic names, like Julie and Kelly. I also liked the name Melody, just because there was a great song, Melody, that was popular when I was in college. If you'd like to hear it, it's on youtube. It's such a good song ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoaBdVzF0J0
I ended up naming my DD Vanessa Caitlyn. I love the name Vanessa and it suits her, so I'm happy with the decision.

DH always knew his first borned daughter's name was going to be Rose Mae. His grandmother died giving birth to his mama.. [I could not complain about that - even though I'm not head over heals for the name, Rose.] so his gift to his mama was to name the first daughter after her mom. We kept it a secret until they were born. She cried.

So since Rose is obviously a flower name ^_^ we figured we'd name the other after a flower. Alyssa is actually a name referring to a yellow flower. And since Mae is three letters long, we decided to give Alyssa 'Lyn' for a middle name.

DH didn't like my #1 choices for names & I wasn't crazy about his #1 choices, so we went to names that we both could agree on!!

    We ended up with:
Chloe Katherine - Chloe was always a name we both loved, so that one was easy. DH's moms name is Kathy, and she has been so amazing to us that is where the middle name came from.
Sydney Joelle - I wanted Joelle as the first name, but DH didn't, so we came up with Sydney mid-pregnancy. Joelle is after my favorite Aunt and Uncle, Joe and Joan!

When we were going through fertility treatments, I would get really sad & depressed & someone had suggested that I read the first 2 chapters of the book of Samuel in the bible. It's this story about this woman Hannah who can't have children & prays to God for them. God blesses her with a son whom she named Samuel. I just really loved the story & it brought me so much comfort, so I decided that if I ever had a girl, she'd be Hannah and a boy would be Samuel. And then when I found out we were pregnant with boy/girl twins....well, I just felt like their names were already decided for them! And I still really believe that these precious babies are God's blessings!

Both of our kids are named (first names) after their great-grandparents. DS is Guy (DH's maternal grandfather) and DD is Josephine (My paternal grandmother, but Josie for short). I always wanted to be named Josephine, which would have been the Italian tradition if my parents decided to follow it. Instead, my name's Michelle, which is fine, but figured I would pass that name onto my daughter someday instead. As it was, my paternal grandfather died about 2 weeks before Josie was born (Grandma Josephine died about 10 years ago) and while we were visiting IL at X-mas time, I told him that if we had a girl we were going to name her Josephine after grandma. He got teary eyed and kept saying "Grazie, Grazie" (Thank you in Italian). So, I know we made the right choice.

As for the middle names, DH got to name DS and I got to pick DD's middle name. I chose Raven because we live in Alaska and I wanted something Alaskan, but NOT Denali, McKinley, Kenai, etc. (common Alaskan names...just think Bristol Palin, named after Bristol Bay, AK). Ravens, however, are the Alaskan native people's "creator" of the world, so I decided that it was Alaskan enough AND Josie Ray goes really well together. :)

DS is Miles. We figured we should do something a little more common for Guy, since he may not like the name as he gets older. Miles is also the character from the Dune Series, which DH LOVES and has read probably 15-20 times. I have not read the whole series, but I guess Miles is a very strong character in the books. Either way, I just liked the name.

I also like this thread! Great idea! :D

    We chose family names.

Baby A was Arthur, after my maternal grandfather, who died in 1992. Middle name John was my paternal grandfather's middle name (Emmett John), plus there are several John's on both sides of my family tree, going back to at least the 1400's. Before the babies were born, DH and I had decided to call our Arthur "AJ." and we both liked the name James best... but then we realized that John was so prevelant in my lineage, so we decided to use that for our J instead!

Baby B was Benjamin, after DH's brother, William "Bill" Benjamin, who died in 1999. We had always considered using William as a first or middle name, but DH's other brother had a son in late 2006, and named him William "Will." We decided to use Benjamin instead. I'm so glad; the name has grown on me so much, and I just love it! It was also DH's maternal grandfather's middle name. Thomas was chosen as his middle name because it runs strongly on both sides of DH's family, plus it was the name of my godfather, who died in 2007.

(Our DD also has a family name. Lourdon was my paternal grandmother's maiden name. I always loved the sound of it, and it was at the top of my girl name list for many years! We picked Grace as her middle name because, after years of fertility problems, we felt that she was truly a Gift of God's Grace.)

After I had my IVF I was put on two days bed rest. I kept patting my stomach and saying Max & Lily (names I have always liked) hold on, even though we transfered 3 embryos. When we found out we were having boy/girl twins we just had to use those names.

Max's middle name is Mason after DH late father and Lily's middle name is Eveline after my late grandmother.

The names we have chosen for our children are a reflection of our faith and belief in God. Except for my oldest son, who I had as a single parent. He was named after Tom Cruise's character in "Days of Thunder" - Cole Trickle.

    Cole Anders - Cole Trickle
Piper Noel - Was named after my former Pastor in Minneapolis - John Piper and his wife Noel
Berea Naomi - Was named after the town of Berea in Acts Chpt. 17
Jude Revelation - Named after the last two books in the Bible - I had memorized the book of Jude for a theatre production tryout.

    And then the Twins:

When I was pregnant, we heard a young preacher preach on the name Emmanuel - God with us. I knew it would make a perfect middle name. Then a few weeks later a girl came to our church and talked about a man named Laun. I liked the name, but knew it wasn't quite right. So, I did a google name search of Laun and Laud came up as something similar. So the name meaning:

Laud Emmanuel - Praise, God Is With Us

When we found out we were having boys, I knew I wanted similar meanings without the names sounding alike. One night I asked my husband to come up with a middle name. All of a sudden he said the word Anthem. He had been thinking about Ayn Rand's book 'Anthem'. I loved it. So I opened the baby name book (again) right to the name Creed. Perfect. We both loved it.

    Creed Anthem - Our Faith/Praise

Our girls first names are names we liked. Their middle names are family names

Emily Madeleine - Madeleine is my DH great Aunt who is now in her 90's and so excited to have a namesake
Her initials are also the same as my grandmother who was a twin. We didn't realize until after we named her, but a nice touch.
My grandmother died a few years ago, but always said one of the grandkids would have twins and she got her wish.

Victoria Evelyn - Evelyn is my Mom and the girls are her first granddaughters

It took us months to agree on names but this is what we finally came up with and how...

Molly- I had liked the name when I was reading my Harry Potter books (Molly Weasley is such a strong character and DD #1 always told me I was a lot like her). DH agreed because of a Nirvana song "Kissing Molly's Lips". He is a huge fan.
Middle names- Elyse because we just like the name and Eudora after my Great Aunt on my dad's side. She was my greatest "great aunt" and I loved visiting with her. She passed years ago and I thought is was a great tribute to her.

Stefan- Is after my DH's 2nd cousin. He was more like a dad than his own dad was. He always believed in DH and was the first to accept my children and I into their family. We became very close and he was extatic about the twins. He passed away in February of this year, so he didn't get to meet our little ones.
Middle names- Scott is after daddy, and Phillip is after my grandfather. Eudora was his sister. They weren't twins but were very close. My grandfather passed before ever meeting any of my children.

Naming both babies after my grandfather and great aunt made my grandmother's and dad's day!

I had the WORST time ever picking out names... and believe me! If I had it my way, my childrens names would be MUCH different that what they are.

Their father is soooo picky, and every single name I picked was 'no, thats ugly, thats my cousins name, thats my friends sons name, etc etc forever and ever.. Every name I picked, he either didnt like, or he knew someone with that name and didnt want to use it!
My first son I wanted to name Marcus, but obviously it didnt happen, so after looking at the baby name website, somehow I came up with Treyvon, and his dad picked Elijah as his middle name. He actually wanted it to be his first name, but I said No.
My daughter we agreed on much easier, but it was still not my first choice. Sanai Nevaeh we agreed on b/c we both liked the actress, whose name I think is spelled Sanaa Lathan, and her middle name is Heaven spelled backwards, pronounced Ne-vay.
The twins names were the worst!! I had nothing to do with the name choice because I finally gave up after all the back and forth, same issues as with the other names... he didnt like anything I picked. Now, I wish I had said, No, to him, and just named them what I wanted (nothing specific, just different names) We both wanted the names to be similar and after a lot of searching through baby books and basically getting ideas off of the other names, he picked Jahnessa and Jahsiah, (Jah meaning God) and the middle names are Empress (princess) and Ras (prince)
woohoo... now if only i could have 2 more (1 boy 1 girl) so i can name them whatever I like!!

I always liked the movie Steel Magnoilas...Jackson is the name of the hubby and son in that movie, so that is how we picked Jackson. I picked Claire after one of my mom's friends.

  32. DH hated every name I would throw at him for our boys, he would always find some way to correlate the name with an athlete he didn't like or someone he knew growing up. I came home from work one day and he was watching Zoolander (his fave) and he said "We should name our kids Owen and Ben after Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller" He was half-joking but I've always liked the name Benjamin and I thought Owen was pretty cool so I said ok. Their middle names are our fathers middle names, Owen Daniel after FIL and Benjamin Hugh after my dad.

We had picked a name for each sex when we started the adoption process. Just names we liked. I had a friend called Christopher in college and have loved the name since (it's not common at all where I'm from). We gave him my dh's dad's name as second name. Elizabeth I loved since Little Women LOL. We just call her Lisa though. We changed her middle name after the birth though, to the middle name their birthparents had picked for her.

They'll probably be one of another 10 Elizabeth and Christopher in school, but what can you do. There are tons of names I like but dh was picky. And I think it fits them just right.
