How dark is your nursery?

So we leave a small lamp on at all times, and I'm wondering if they'd sleep better if it wasn't on all the time. I kind of doubt it, but the thought had crossed my mind... Also, I'm attempting to start napping them in their cribs too.... So, do I open the blinds a little so they know it's daytime and don't get confused, or will they nap better (or at all, heehee) with the blinds closed all the way?

What are you other mommies doing?

My girls have a little night lite on all the time. It's more for me then them! That way I can see what I'm doing in the middle of the night without turning on a light.

My girls nap in their swings (I know, I know...) and it's as bright as can be in the living room.

    Hope that helps!

during the night time, we have a little night light in the hall way but we close their door most of the way so only a little of the light gets in. So, it's pretty much dark when they sleep at night. During the day, we have blinds that we keep closed but it still lets a ton of light in and they sleep just fine. I like that they can sleep no matter what kind of light is in or not in the room.

During the night, we keep the TV on the guide channel so we have the light and the time. During the day, they nap in their bouncers in the living room.

I have metal mini blinds in the boys' room. I keep the blinds closed when sleeping is happening but natural light will filter in during the day and it's very dark at night so they can tell the difference between night and day. It won't really hurt anything to turn off the light at night or close the blinds all the way and see what happens.

My girls nap in there cribs and we make sure that enough light get in to let them know it is a daytime nap and they usually sleep an hour and a half and then at night it is dark and we also leave a light in the hall on so that we can see, but we also close the door most of the way too... on of my girls no matter light or day will let us put her in her crib wide awake with give her a paci and turn on the mobile and within five minutes she is asleep...... the other is a very different story...... anyway though the girls seem to sleep fine no matter what type of light for us!

Once I settled into a real nap routine, with the kids napping in their cribs (well after they knew the difference between night and day) I got a black-out blind. It's not completely dark (like night) but it's definitely quite dim). I think it's great.

WE live in Alaska with the "midnight sun" so we have a VERY dark nursey!

as dark as we can possibly get it! If there are any lights, they get up and play. Actually, we've been known to roll up a towel and block the light from under the door, too. Otherwise, they're bad about coming out of their room to see what's going on!!! (of course, that wasn't a problem when they were in cribs ;) ).

When my DDs were about 6 months and we were trying to get them to nap in their cribs, we tacked dark flannel sheets up over all the windows. It was meant to be a temporary solution so that we could see if it made a difference (before investing in dark window blinds) but more than a year later, they are still there. :D It actually didn't make a huge difference in their naps (though that started to improve a lot around 6-7 months anyway), but I figure it insulates them a bit from the changes in seasons. It also blocks some of the outside noise during naptime. And in winter, it actually made their room a lot warmer.

We do have a little night light under one of the cribs. Like PP said, that is mostly so we can go in there if we need to and not bump into things.

We have shades on the window. Nightlight only.

During the day, the blinds are closed at naptime. It's not too dark, but dark enough for him to sleep and not be distracted by whatever is going on outside. Nighttime, there is a nite-lite in the hallway, but that's it. If he's not fully asleep when I leave the room, I'll turn on his crib turtle that has lights and soft music.

we have little nightlights in the room at night and during the day for naps, we have the blinds wide open so they don't confuse night and day. not sure if they would anyway, but we wanted to be sure. they sleep no problem.

I put black garbage bags up in the windows so it is pitch black. I imagine their eyes adjust and are able to find their bottles. I also put a fan on to make a montone noise and to drown out the noise from us moving around in the house. Since I did the garbadge bag thing, they sleep longer and I frequently have to wake them up.
