How dark is your nursery?

I had hoped to co-sleep in the bedroom w/my girls who are now 9 days adjusted and have been home for three weeks, but that hasn't worked out so far. So - they (and I!) are in the nursery (all darn day,it seems!)

Question: how dark do you keep yours? we have a lava lamp (my DH the Decorator - NOT!!!), but am wondering if you keep yours completely dark, or????

I need some light for middle of the night diaper changes and, hilariously, last night used my CELL PHONE to check if my littler girl was properly latching (so tired i couldn't tell, and isn't that a total post-modern mommy solution?!)

I have lamp in the corner of the nursery with a 25 watt bulb in it. I cant remember what they are called right now but it sits on the floor and has a long pole that goes up to where the shade and bulb are. I keep that on at all times day and night. That is what they got used to when they came home from the hospital. I was so exhauted I definately was not going to try and find my was around the nursery in complete darkness. LOL. Of course they will now not sleep in the dark but at least their mommy didn't trip and break her neck while they were newborns.

We put in a dimmer for the main overhead light and kept it on it's lowest setting for the first couple of months.

Mine was completely dark for sleep -- blackout shades and everything -- but I used a very dim table light (maybe 25 watts?) for nursing and diaper changes.

Completely dark. Used to have a night light though but they have been sleeping better without it.

I have done the cell phone thing many times :) at night if i turn on our bath room light it casts enoug light down the hall so i can see in the nursery without waking them up.

congratulations on the birth of your babies!
our nursery has curtains that are pulled during nap time and bedtime- they by no means darken the room during the day though. this is from day one- i wanted the girls to know the difference between day and night. it's worked fine so far. when we need some light in the room to change a diaper or feed when it's dark the light of the bathroom which is near their room gets enough light in the room with out bothering them. we had a dimmer installed and would have a low light on but that seemed to bother them at night when we turned it on.

I have a tiffany style lamp in the nursery. It puts off a very dim light that works perferct.

I have a cute Noah's Ark stained glass nightlight that I received as a gift ... it works perfect. It is plugged in the wall farthest from the crib and sheds enough light to where I can see them but not too much light.

we've always kept ours completely dark. Less stimulation, more sleep! now that they are older, they don't sleep well at all in places that aren't pretty dark! luckily, the daycare's classroom gets pretty dark for them at nap ;)

We just have a cute dog night light I got from PBK. But I should add that during the day when they nap the room is not dark at all. The afternoon sun hits that side of the house. It doesn't seem to bother them - they slept for 3 hours this morning!

Pretty dark at night, really bright during the day even with the shades down. I turn on the bathroom or hall light at night to see.

    Congrats on your new babies!

I keep two nightlights in the room, and when they were smaller I had a third. The third one was part of a lamp, which the girls have since discovered and won't leave alone ;/. All in all, if I want to walk in there at 2:00 a.m. to read a book, I can.

We keep the light natural, basically. In the winter it is dark and in the summer it is light. (We have 24 hours of light in the summer) I have never seen any reason to keep them in the dark when it is daylight. There are curtains on the windows but they don't block out the sun.

We have a 25 watt light bulb in the lamp and also have a night light which works perfect for those midnight changes :)
