how big is a mucous plug?

hi -- how big is a mucous plug? for the past few days after i go to the bathroom, i have a little mucousy discharge. it's not a lot each time. can a mucous plug come out in little pieces over a few days? or does it all just pop out at once? i told my ob about the discharge last week and she didn't seem concerned because my cervix was closed (though it has shortened a little). she said the plug can be the size of a marshmallow. but i forgot to ask if it can come out in pieces, too. anyone know?

 

I never lost mine..that I know of anyway, but I have heard others talk about it coming out in pieces.

 

mine came out in 1 big chunk 3 days ago about the width of a yo yo but i have had a bit more come out today.. so i guess its possible for it to be in pieces

 

Mine slowly came out over the course of a couple of weeks. I thought I had an infection, but everything came back fine. I asked what the discharge was and they said probably my plug. It was thicker than the normal discharge I had through the pregnancy. So, yes it can come out in pieces.

Im pretty sure i am loosing mine slowly.. It doesnt always come out all at once.

 

I was told the size of a golf ball. I never lost mine so I don't have any other info for you, sorry. :unsure:

 

My sister (who is an ob) said it's between the size of a golf ball and tennis ball. It sometimes comes out all at once, or sometimes in pieces. She said it's common for some women to lose it over time several weeks before going into labor, and other women don't lose it until they are in the hospital in labor, and therefore never know they lose it (b/c so much other stuff can be coming out during that same time, ewwww).
