So we live outside Houston (read hot and humid!), and also in a more rural area not conducive to stroller walks. I read about other mamas who go on walks several times a day, and I'm jealous! I feel like my babies would love to get out more, we usually only get out 2-3 times a week. With gas prices and proximity (it takes us at least 20 minutes to get anywhere good), it's just hard to do. Can anyone else relate, or have suggestions for breaking up the monotous day? Not to mention just getting into a hot car...sure i crank the ac, but it's still hot! And those poor car seats just do not breathe!

    Give me some ideas, please!!!

No ideas here, but just wanted to say we're in Houston too (Cypress actually), and I feel your pain! We took the stroller down to the mailbox at the end of the street today and I kept thinking about being confined to the house all summer because it's so darn hot outside!! When it rains it cools things off a bit, but then come the mosquitos! We just can't win!!!

I live in Nashville and it's really hot here to. My babies are up at 6:15am so as soon as they have their morning bottle I am out the door before it gets to hot. We usually take about 1 1/2 hr. walk. That means that I usually get up really early but I feel better to get out of the house and so do they.

    Good Luck,

Hi :) We're in Cy-Fair area. I tried taking them out for a walk the other evening, but it did no good. A mosquito the size of my head tried to fly off with the stroller. One thing I have been doing, is taking them over to the Katy Mills mall. That would probably be a pretty big hike for you if you're in North Houston :(. The Woodlands has a nice mall that has some indoor/outdoor aspects that without melting. There's also a huge play area in the middle of the mall that isn't horrifically crowded during the weekdays.

It's really hard when they are little and aren't moving around at all. They just sit there and sweat in the heat. :( Maybe you could go walk around a mall every once in awhile when you are really needing a break from the house!!

Sugarland here! We walk right after breakfast which is still (not sure how much longer) ok outside...or we just sit outside and play. I also do the mall walking or Target often. Stinks it's so hot and not even really summer yet! What about another HOT moms home for a playdate? My girls don't care where we go, they just like to get out!

It is hot and humid here. I usually waited until after 5 PM to take my guys out for a walk in the stroller.

Katy here! The only time I've found that we can swing walks is before 11am, at that point you just have to worry about the mosquito's but they seem better in the morning than in the evening.

We're up in College Station! There's definitely a big temp difference (with the humidity) between here and there, but it's still hot! You could always walk the mall or head to Target. Those are my two favorite places to "wander" and they always keep it nice and cool. If we go for a walk, it's in the evenings, usually around 6:00 because it's cooled off significantly.

We also do playdates at other mom's houses, the splashpad or at the pool. Bryan/College Station Parks and Rec do a great job of keeping those things nice for our community!

I'm another one who lives in the Cypress area. It's funny you post this because I was just thinking about this on Sunday. I wanted to take the boys out for a walk, but by 10 in the morning it was sweltering. I just couldn't do that to them. You have to go either REALLY early in the morning or late in the evening, but the humidity is still horrible. Somewhere indoors is really the only option for "walks".
