I'm still expecting but so is everyone else in the expecting forum -- I thought this might the right place for my really shallow question!

After the birth of my first child, I vaguely remember coming home in maternity clothes. It seems like I wasn't all the much smaller.

After the upcoming birth of my twins, I'm guessing I'll still need to wear my maternity clothes for awhile. Can anyone share how much smaller they were after their deliveries? My waist line is HUGE and my maternity clothes are getting a little snug! I'm hoping after a twin birth, you are much smaller!

(My husband has already assured me my stomach skin will never be the same.)

    Anyone have any positive experience?

I did have to come home in maternity cloths after delivering my b/g twins; however, I was able to fit 1 size smaller than when I went into the hospital--L instead of XL. If you're having a c-section, plan on wearing the most comfortable pants home as the incision will be tender. HTH! GL!

When I left the hospital I still looked about 5-6 months pregnant, but that was a lot smaller than when I went in. I wore a belly binder which helped. Your husband may be right about the skin on your stomach. I had almost no stretch marks but my skin is a little saggy. I'm really thin so it looks even weirder.

I lost a lot of weight quickly. I still wore my maternity clothes home because I had a c-section, but with breastfeeding I lost almost all of my weight within a few months. However, I still had a little bit of a belly because it was twins for quite some time, but was able to hide it fairly well. I still am not the same as I was pre-twin, but its not bad considering I had twins.

I definitely wore maternity clothes home from the hospital. I had a nice loose tank top and stretchy pants with a hoodie overtop. I still looked 5 months pregnant easily and I had a c-section as well so I wanted loose clothing.

I wore stretchy maternity pants and a nursing tank home. I lost probably 30-40 lbs before I left (vag. birth), however I had some complications after delivery and ended up needing a D&C and spent 5 days in the hospital. I think that had alot to do with losing alot ( I lost alot of blood and fluids). The first month I still wore maternity cloths but they were the ones I started in size s/m.

GL!! I couldnt wait to get back in my cloths!!

When I went into the hospital I was in 3X maternity tops and 2X pants.
When I left the hospital 3 days later after my c-section I wore a pair of stretchy black capris (size XL) and a non-maternity top in XL.
I could get my pre-pregnancy jeans on within about 3 weeks (they were uncomfortable and I wouldn't have left the house in them, but I could get them on!) and was wearing almost all my regular clothes by 8 weeks pp. Now at 9 months pp I am 20 pounds less than I was when I got pregnant.

I've heard that after you give birth you still look about 6-7 months prego. At least until the uterus has a chance to go back down to size.

Side note: My maternity clothes that I got no longer fit me after about 7 months. We found out about the twins at our 20 wk apt, so I didn't think I was going to get as huge as I did. I ended up cutting the waistline of my pants [and only wore them to doc apts]. I wore DH's biggest boxer shorts around the house [and even those were getting uncomfortably small for me].

As for 'going home' clothes. I just brought the drawstring comfy pants I liked to wear around the house and layered a couple tank tops and called it good. FYI bring an extra pair of whatever you decide to wear cause I remember bleeding on mine.. Thank God I brought an extra pair. That would have been embarassing ^_^

I went home 5 days after delivery and I was almost the exact same size as when I went in. I guess that's not the norm, but I had a c/s and lots of gas and swelling in my abdomen. The only difference was that my feet were swollen -- I went in wearing my own shoes and came home wearing DH's slippers.

It took about a week for me to be much smaller at all, and even then I was still in maternity (but more like 2nd-trimester maternity) for another 4 weeks or so. Then I could get back into my normal shirts, and the non-maternity pants that were a few sizes bigger than my usual size.

I never did get back into my pre-pregnancy jeans -- I got back down to the same size after a few months, but somehow the old ones still seem too tight, even though new jeans in the same size fit OK. I also have much more of a belly than I did before, both from the twin skin and the ab separation.

I think it depends on how much weight you put on throughout the pregnancy to understand how you'll fare after delivery. I had a little extra "meat" on my bones at the start of my pregnancy so my doctor suggested I keep my weight gain under control. I ended up gaining approximately 30lbs for the whole pregnancy but my belly stuck out quite a bit carrying to 38 weeks.

I had a c/s and came home looking about 5 months pregnant. It was soooo nice not having that huge belly weight anymore. I scored some of those roll top yoga pants at Gap maternity on clearance for $5 and they are the most comfortable pants ever! I highly recommend. (Shhhhhh....I still wear them on occassion since they are stretchy.)

I lost all of my baby weight pretty quickly within the first couple months of being home. Even better, the breastfeeding is helping me lose ever more weight than what I started with. Combined with working out, I'm hoping to dig out some clothes I haven't been able to wear for a while.

I'm still waiting for my skin to tighten back up to normal. Having lost the weight pretty quickly it kind of sags a bit. That's probably the only non-positive experience about my body bouncing back after delivery.

Keep us posted on how everything works out! See you in the First Year soon :)

I had to wear the same size maternit pants that I wore before. I thought I would be a size smaller so I brought a smaller size. Big mistake. I had to send DH home to get my larger pants. If you are unsure you could bring one of the larger two sizes. GL.

I wore XL PJ pants from Target and a maternity tank top (and yes, it was December). I didn't get any swelling until AFTER the girls were born and it was Fred Flintstone all the way! I'm now 10 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight and my girls aren't 4 months yet. Not sure how that happens as all I eat is sweets and I'm not BFing. I guess I just chase them around a lot!

I wore sweat pants and a maternity top home from the hospital. 2 weeks after my c-section I had lost 18 lbs. When the girls were about 4 weeks old I began to fit back into my pre-pregnancy jeans. At my 6 week post partum check up I was 1 lb below my pre-pregnancy weight. I've been pumping so I'm sure that has something to do with it! I put all my maternity clothes away 2 weeks ago!

I was a lot smaller, but I guess not as small as I thought I was at the time. When I got home I showed off to a friend of mine and I said "look" as I twirled around showing off my much smaller body. She said, "that's okay, honey, everyone has that after having a baby and you'll lose it."

Anyway, I came home from the hospital wearing the same outfit I wore to check into the hospital. Well, the first time - I had to be readmitted the next day. I was feeling so crappy both times we left the hospital and we were so tired, we didn't do much fanfare or anything, we just dressed in any old thing and left. The babies were wearing the hospital t-shirts and diapers and that's all (it was a hot day).
