has anyone else done a hospital tour, or does anyone plan on doing it? the hospital i'm delivering at doesn't have a NICU, so IF they needed it, they'd get sent to another hospital... i'm wondering if maybe i should also do a tour of that hospital just to see their NICU?

We didn't have a tour of the hospital. We didn't take the childbirth class because we knew we were having a c/s. We took a "preparing for twins" class and they didn't give us a tour of the NICU because it was January and they were afraid of germs coming in to the NICU.

I will be having a tour this time, even though I'm pretty familiar with our hospital and it's NICU. I'm having a planned CS more than likely and will have the girls in the NICU again more than likely. Just good for a refresher.

The tour was a part of the birthing classes. I registered, but I didn't get to attend b/c I was on hospital bedrest by then. In hindsight, I don't think having a tour would have mattered much to us. I did get a tour of the NICU, that was more helpful than I would have imagined.

i did not take a tour of the hospital or NICU. DH is a doc in the NICU and I spent plenty of time there during my own residency, so we are both well-versed in the labor floor and NICU. BUT, I do think if you get the chance, a tour of the NICU could be helpful. It can be a scary and confusing place for parents, so seeing it before-hand would allow you to prepare. Of course, the babies may never need to go there, but just in case, I would recommend it.....

I took the tour months ago because they only offered them on Sunday and DH's schedule was about to change. It was nice because there was another lady there that was about to have twins in a month and she got to ask all the questions and I got to learn alot just from that.

My hospital has a level III NICU but we didnt' get to see it just the regular nursery which had only babies that needed to be monitored all the other babies are in the rooms with the moms.

I've been on 2 tours of the hospital where I'll be delivering. I went on one tour with all the other pregnant moms that just showed us what the birthing rooms are like......then I went on a tour with the other multiples moms where I got to see where I'll actually be having my twins and the NICU and transitional nursery and the regular nursery too.

We took a tour and basic childbirth class this weekend. The tour was nice just to get the lay of the land and figure out the hosptial policies (visiting hours, where the after hours entrance is, etc). the childbirth class wasn't geared towards twim mommies but had some good info about the medication options, labor signs, and how to deal with the pain before the epidural! I'm glad I took the class but really wish we would have done it earlier in the pg, 36 weeks was way too late to be running around and sitting on the floor.

We're doing a hospital tour Oct. 6. It has been widely recommended. They do have a Level 3 NICU at this hospital. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Our multiple class was at a different hospital. I called twice to try to get a tour of the hospital that I'd be delivering at but they were always full! I never did get it. IMO it wasn't really warrented. I had a planned c-section with my first set.

I'm not doing a hopsital tour-they don't show the NICU anyway and I have been to L&D 4x's anyway. We also had a private lamaze class in our home, so the instructor geared everything to having twins and gave us the low down on the hospital and procedures.

The hospital that I delivered my twins at did not do tours of the NICU unless you were on hospital bedrest...that was just their policy... probably b/c of introducing germs, no matter what time of the year...so you might not get a tour of one regardless.... hopefully you'll never need to see one anyway!!
