So I can hardly eat these days with a growing belly and not expending much energy here in bed. . . Food is often not what I want to think about, but I get fed 3 regular meals, 3 snacks and 3 Ensure shakes daily. I'm stuffed and uncomy by the end of the day, but with TTTS twins, the nurses say, "Eat for your babies!"

That was mighty hard to do at supper last night when I found a bunch of little hairs in my mashed potatoes. Gag. Our cafeteria here has a 94 grade, not so hot for hospital fare. Anybody else at the mercy of the hospital food?

UGGGGgg, I just gagged reading that. I remember hospital food from my days on bedrest. At our hospital there was a special(secret) menu that included sandwiches, frozen pizza, fruit, ice cream, all decent things if you knew to ask for them. I often ate from that secret menu especially the day I got the fried chicken platter, I called it the Berks Country fried squirel. I swear that's what it was a rodent! They would wheel the food in on a cart with white linens and sliver platters and you would pull off the sliver cover and surprise--- Fried Squirel! Sorry, need I say I was very disturbed by my meal that day.

Again, uggggg. I feel for you. Ask about a secret menu, hopefully they will have one!

As bad as bedrest is and as much as annoying people, like me, tell you to enjoy it. Enjoy it. I haven't laid somewhat quietly and peacefully in 3 months!

    :bad: Ewww gross!

Sorry you are having trouble eating, that is a lot of food. The ensure drinks are filling too. I remember they would bring me a boost with every meal and I could never drink all 3 each day.

    Oh, yuck!

When I was on hospital bedrest (and the couple admittings I had prior to that) the hospital had a standard menu, so each meal of each day of the week was the same, week to week. And the food was quite awful. I would have anyone who visited bring me food, and I ordered out with the nurses quite often. But for breakfast I as stuck with omelets 5 of 7 days a week, and they were awful. I still can't really bring myself to eat eggs.

The nujrses kept telling me they were changing to an options menu where I could choose what I wanted. But it never happened during my hospital bedrest. I so wished it had, because the food in the cafeteria was actually decent.

When I went back in due to baby A PROM'ing, and ultimately delivery, they had gone to the options menu and I was so happy to see it. I even saved the menu for my scrapbook!!

Susan, the hospital has "options" as well as a changing chef special each day. . . but the options are akin to what you'd find at a zoo cafe/grill. You know, pizza, burgers, a grilled chicken breast, tossed salad, green beans (only veg aside from salad), rice, etc. You have to special order fruit, and they give you whatever. Like, they'll send up an orange without a knife too. Or a green banana.

Seven years ago, I know the food menu was better, but too many people come in here taking advantage of the system and voila! Our insurance costs are higher and the hospital is having to go lean. You used to have more meat and veggie choices on a daily basis, but no more. Don't get me started on the social stuff I've witnessed while here. . . :)

I guess I was lucky, my hospital had good food and a great cafe if I wanted something else. I cant imagine eating the food there after finding hairs in it. Ick!

YUCK!! :bad: That is terrible, I really hope you said something to somebody. Are you on a special diet, or can people bring you food from the outside? When I was in the hospital, I would have people bring me food all the time as I could not stomach the hospital food. GL!!

Hi Emily! I've been following your story recently. I was in the hospital for 50 days! I ordered in a lot! My husband
was sweet and didn't complain about me spending all of $$ on food delivered to me. When I had to eat hospital
food I ate a lot of grill cheese and cheese burgers. For breakfast, I ate the same stuff all the time- eggs, bacon, buscuit,
maybe some pancakes. Can your friends bring you any food? My room was loaded with pretzals, cookies, candy!! :)
I always had snacks around me. I was one a kick with these peanut butter filled pretzals from CVS. Yummy!
Do you have a fridge? I know this is hard. Gosh, I was so there, not so long ago. Feel free to PM anytime if you want
to chat! My girls were born April 1st and all is well-

    Tina
