Hi all.... I'm also joining the ranks of mommies on hospital bed rest... I'll be in here for 8-10 weeks... The actual hospital stay doesn't bother me.. I'd rather be here than 2 hours away at home! But what does bother me is the stress on us financially! It's so expensive to stay here.. I get to eat for free but my poor DH doesn't... and with gas and parking.. we can barely make it...! Does anyone know if the hospitals they are at have "programs" for low income families through the social worker.. I was just told about it today.. and they are not in the office on Saturday.. I was told that some hospitals offer "food and gas vouchers".. have any of you all heard about this?! I surely hope so...

i never heard of any programs like that, but we lived VERY near the hospital, so it wasn't really an issue for us anyhow. Frequently the hospital dining staff would bring an extra plate for dh or if a neighbor had been discharged, they would offer him her plate. and he could spend the night any time he liked, so he didn't always have to drive home. definitely talk to the social worker and i hope it works out for the best for your family

I was on hospital bedrest and our hosptial had a program where your partner got to eat the hosptial food for a discounted rate. Maybe one of your nurses would know.
    Good luck!

In the hospital I'm at they have a fridge and microwave (like a little mini-kitchen) right down the hall, so DH brings in frozen dinners and has those when he's here. He's also brought snacks and stuff for the room. Also, I order my meals from a menu and will sometimes order a little extra for him too.

I don't know much about special programs though. I would be interested in what you find out when they are back in the office though!

    Hang in there!!

When I was on hospital bedrest I never heard of any programs like that, doesn't mean they don't have them though. I was only there for 14 days, but I know what you mean about food for DH and gas. So I definitely feel for you. Definitely worth asking about though and let us know what you find out, I'm curious.

I didn't hear of any programs like that, but we didn't ask. There should be a social worker you can ask.

Our hospital provided a refrigerator in my room, and a microwave and snack area down the hall. DH kept food in the fridge and could use the microwave. He brought me (us) a lot of takeout though because my hospital food was horrible.

We also had a chair that pulled out into a bed in my room, so he could stay there.
