I'm trying my hardest to remember the nap times from that age. At about 20 months we dropped the second nap, and I think before then it was a ten o'clock nap and a 2 o'clock nap, for about an hour each. I remember what a pain it was to try to get things fit in between their naps. Basically we just dealt with it, or waited until their second nap to go out and do anything. The best I can tell you is that it gets better. Once they are on one nap you'll have more freedom. Just expect it to take some getting used to.

My boys are almost 16.5 months and they still take two naps a day also. They are up at 6:30, 1st nap 10:30-12 and second nap 3:30 - 5. Then it's dinner, bath, bed at 7:30. I usually go out after lunch until 3pm but like last w/e I had a BBQ to go to so I left close to 4 and they napped in the car on the way home. I was wondering when the would go to one nap also and it doesn't seem like anytime soon.

On the days that you are running errands, can you keep them up, and then let them sleep in the stroller, or while your driving? So they would only have only 1 nap, instead of 2. Or like mentioned, run errands early, and then nap later.

That was the age where we switched to one nap a day. If you type in one nap or something like such in the search tab - up above- I think you will get a ton of info on what you are looking for. That's what I did. Everyone goes through this stage- sometimes sooner than others. HOpe that helps.

I would just take them out during the afternoon naptime, and hope they sleep in the car. (that's what mine do)

We switched my oldest down to one nap the day after his first birthday and the twins switched two weeks before their first birthday. We do all of our errands and stuff in the AM and then they all go down at 1. My oldest is up at 2:30 and the twins at 4. Once in a while one of the twins will fall asleep on the way home in the car but it is usually 10-15 minutes. I wake them up when we get home.

Mine are still at 2 naps and it doesn't look like that will change soon. But since I work (at home, FT) I normally don't take them out until 4pm when I am done and the nanny leaves. We quick run to the mall or Kohls if we need to, and they are in a pretty good mood because they usually nap until 3:30-4.

Have you tried waiting until after the second nap?

Mine took 2 naps until they were 19 months old. They thrived on having a schedule so I tried to stick to it as much as possible. If I tried to take them out and hoped they napped in the stroller or car, they never did. Lordy, then I would have 2 cranky babes on my hands.

Everyone is different though, I hope you find what works. :)

Mine took two naps til 13mos. I switched them because of my older kids school schedule. I did that with all my kids, when *I* was ready for them to switch, we did it. I didn't do it before 13mos though. I started with keeping them up until 11:30. I fed them lunch at 11, put them down at 11:30 and hoped for a long nap. For the first week or so they didn't sleep more than 90 min but I left them in the cribs for at least 2hrs. Then they started sleeping 3hrs pretty consistently. After a few months, I changed lunch to 11:30 and nap to 12. Now that they are a bit older they go down anywhere between 12 and 1 and sleep til anywhere between 2 and 3:30 depending on what we need to do that day.

I'm sorry you had such a bad day at the mall. It was a frustrating time for me as well when they were still napping twice a day. It does make it a bit tricky to get out and do anything. I used to go out and do my errands early in morning so I'd be back before their first nap. Mine transitioned to 1 nap around 2 years old and it has become soo much easier for me to get out. Good Luck sweetie. P.S......Our twins have the best birthday don't they!!:)

We switched at 15 months, I had 1 ready and 1 that wasn't ready at all. However after about 3 or 4 days of working really hard to keep him up until noon he got the hang of it and it has been 1 nap ever since. I hated it when they took 2 naps, I felt like it really kept us tied to the house most of the day.

I was going to suggest doing errands in the morning and if they napped in the stroller or car then great. Then they would take a nice afternoon nap still. Personally I feel the afternoon nap should be the better nap as it gets them through until bedtime.

We are still on 2 naps here and it's a pain since I have to wake them from their afternoon nap at 3:15 everyday to get their older sister from school, so we don't have the luxury of getting home at 2 and going down for a nap. So I don't go out too often. Like you said after lunch is the only time I really have and that is only an hour after lunch until nap time, so I choose to preserve nap time so I have happy kids in the evening.

I am looking forward to going down to one nap so we can get out in the mornings.
