DH and I took the boys to a local arts festival yesterday and today, and I completely flaked on putting sunscreen on the boys. Now they have rosy cheeks - at first I thought it was maybe leftover from the heat of the day, but then I realized they're sunburnt!

Besides going to buy sunscreen to immediately put in the diaper bag, does anyone have any suggestions for me to help them? They don't seem to be in pain, but I don't want them to scratch themselves and then it hurt, etc. I put Aveeno baby lotion on before bed.

    Thanks!

I would try a light coating of aloe lotion, enough to blend in the skin. You are not a bad momma! We took the kids to the playground and as they are swinging on the swings I realized that not only did I forget the sunscreen but I also forgot the shoes! I have to get out of winter mode and into summer mode!

You can put some diaper cream on their little cheeks if they are burnt. I put it on my girls cheeks in the winter time when they get wind burn.

I did the same thing 2 weekends ago, we went to a BBQ and I forgot to put sunblock on the girls, actually it never even crossed my mind until halfway through the day, duh!

I have heard of using diaper cream as well.

No bad mommy award for you! Or you would have to at least share it with all the rest of us! I can't imagine there isn't a mom that forgot sunscreen at one time or another!

    Ditto!

I would just keep it moisturized so it doesn't peel.

I you win it for the year, I win it for the decade! My girls both got terrible wind burn this summer when they were just 6 weeks old. It was super windy at the pool and we were there for about 3 hours! Sam's eyes were so swollen. I felt just terrible! However, it did go away but check out her poor little face!

Ahhh it bound to happen to any of us sometime and it doesn't sound too bad! This won't help you this time but I keep an aloe vera plant around because it works on burns or sunburns and it takes the sting out almost immediately. The key to keeping the plant alive is to not water it too often (easy enough). You remove a leaf, split it open, and wipe the goo on the burnt area. My husband spilled a ton of hot water on his foot one day and we put it on and he never ended up in pain! Works really good to soothe sunburns too and it is natural!

 You don't get the bad mommy award! They will be okay. :) Aloe and diaper cream are both great suggestions.
