I've taken Tums, Maalox, generic liquid antacids.... just not getting enough relief. It isn't just heartburn - it is nasty acid reflux.

I see my doc on Thursday and I know she took something during her twin PG - an RX med for reflux.... and plan on asking for some! I've NEVER been this miserable - EVER (well, as far as heartburn and reflux goes).

Anyone take an RX or OTC meds that gives them really good relief?

I love my Zantac. It's soooooo nice! And it acts very quickly. You can buy it over the counter. I checked with my Dr first and that's what she suggested.

I started with Pepsid AC twice a day which just kept it at bay. I switched to Prilosec which I take first thing in the morning, once a day. It's been working great so far. My OB had prescribed Nexium but my insurance wouldn't cover it so they suggested the Prilosec.

Nexium was my lifesaver along with Zantac. I used to wake up choking at night and unable to breathe. Then for the last two months of my pg I completely lost my voice bc the acid damaged my vocal cords!! The nexium took away the pain from it all!!!

I did prescription Zantac in the last month of my son's pregnancy but I can't remember the strength. It was a godsend - instant relief. Right now I'm lucky that a few Tums are taking care of it. I don't think that will last much longer, though. :)

I started taking Zantac. Well, that's not even touching it now so my OB prescribe a med called Protonix. I'm not as miserable now.

I take 150mg of zantac twice a day, and tums if I need to! It sucks, huh?

For really quick action until meds take effect, keep cinnamon gum (big red etc.) w/in arms reach and chew a piece - it WILL CALM it and you can get the meds in!!! :hug99: I had it the WHOLE pregnancy (that and throwing up!)....

I started with TUms, moved on to Pepsid AC, then finally prescription Zantac. This was the very worst part of my pregnancy. I was literally throwing up acid in my sleep and choking on hit (sorry TMI). I'm sorry you're suffering! Tell your doc how bad it is and get a presciption.

I had it SO bad during this pregnancy. With the twins, it was manageable heartburn, this time around it was heartburn AND reflux, really bad. I would wake up at night with acid in my throat gagging on it, almost puking. I couldn't stand it. Anything i Put into my mouth set it off. I got the OK for Zantac. I started out with 2 pills a day of the 75 mg and after a few weeks, that quit working. I went to the 150 mg tablets and that worked until the end of the pregnancy. The day I delivered my DD, I felt 100 times better!!

But, check out Olivia's head of hair...I attribute it to the reflux (even though they say it's a "myth")

I am right there with you. I wake every night choking and gagging on acid. My voice has been gone, I think due to the damage to my vocal cords. Drs office keeps telling me there is nothing else I can take (tried TUMS, Pepcid, Zantac, Maalox). I go in tomorrow and I think I may beg for something. I need to get some sleep. I even sleep sitting up and that doesn't work. I eat pretty much nothing now, since anything and everything sets it off. it is really miserable this time around. I swear I will be giving birth to a monkey!
