Hooray! I'm A Grandma!

Our precious grandsons arrived yesterday, at 37w6d, via c-section. Unfortunately for my DD and her SO, the spinal anesthesia was not successful and DD was given a general anesthetic, but that was the only hitch in an otherwise perfect birth!

Preston Michael was born at 8:15am, weighing 6lb 13oz and measuring 19 inches long. Little brother Layton Tyler was born two minutes later, weighing 6lb 8oz and towering over his older brother by one-half inch.

We were all delighted to see a full head of dark hair on Preston -- and then we giggled to see our "baldie" Layton (who has beautiful blonde eyelashes by the way!) just moments later. Awesome! The boys have different blood types so definitely fraternal, but they look so different that we would have figured that out immediately anyway! After an initial few hours of some minor breathing concerns and overall grogginess from the general anesthetic, the babies are now alert, robust, healthy -- and GORGEOUS!! The new family is planning to go home tomorrow afternoon.

Needless to say, we're thrilled beyond belief! I'll be with here with DD for a week or so ... and trust me, during that time I am going to be hounding her to sign up here on TS as soon as she's up to it (she's says she's just not much of a computer person!). If she does, I'm sure she'll post more about her birth story and her beautiful sons.

Thanks to everyone for all the help, hints, advice, encouragement, and well wishes as I've helped prepare DD for the world of twin mommyhood! (And I can tell you that twin grandmotherhood is HEAVEN!!)

 

WOW they sound like healthy babies. I am impressed with her stamina... I was at a docs appt today begging to get mine OUT!

congratulations! I had my twins via c/s at 37wks 5 days... a good time to be born I think! What great weights on those two... I hope your dd is back on her feet soon...and how wonderful that you can help for for a bit. I hope her babies sleep well!!

Congratulations!!!! You are going to eat up every minute of it once they are home!!!! My kids are the pride and joy in my mom's life, much as I imagine these boys will be in yours. Your daughter is incredibly blessed to have your support.

There is nothing better than a doting grandma....my mom is a wonderful source of support as I raise my daughter, and I know she'll be over the moon with these new munchkins....I feel very blessed.

Likewise, your daughter and grandbabies are very lucky to have you!

You are going to LOVE being a grammy. When my dd was pregnant with the twins I asked my 9 year old niece for pointers on how to be a good grandparent. Her response was "don't sqeeze them too tight". Apparently, all of her grandparents have a tendancy to love her so much they squeeze a little too tight! So there is some advice from a wise 9 year old!

I'm only just reading this today as I've been away on Easter break. You are so lucky to have those grandtwins and your daughter is so lucky to have you!!!


Too bad about the spinal not working, the same thing happened to me.
