Hi there. My boys are teething [IMG] and a friend of ours gave us a bottle of Consolin which is made by Dolisos Labs and is a homeopathic remedy for teeth. While not a complete "unbeliever" I am a bit wary of remedies that have not passed medical testing. This oral solution contains:
    Plantago major
    Belladonna
    Calcarea Phosphorica
    Chamomilla vulgars
    Coffea cruda
    Rheum officinal
    Borax

Has anyone used it? heard good or bad things? have any recommendations or concerns?

    Thanks in advance!

Personally I will not use anything for my children that has not gone through medical testing.

One thing you can do is freeze some wash clothes and let the babies suck on those, it seems to help their pain

I actually don't like to use medication on my children unless I have no other alternative. My SIL is very well educated in homeopatheic medication and is teaching me. It is all she has ever used on my nephew, a severely brain-injured child who now has cerebral palsey due to modern medicine. He almost died when he was 1 month old and the doctors said that he wouldn't make it past 1 year old. He is now 5 years old and is almost able to walk independently. As I said before he doesn't take "modern medicine", only homeopathic remedies and he has only been to the doctor 1 time in 5 years for a "sick baby" visit. I am a firm believer in homeopathic medication and the best part is that there are no side effects for taking it. It can't hurt you or your children at all. I say go ahead and give it to them. It can't hurt!

Ummm....BORAX?? I too am skeptical about many homeopathic remedies...but sometimes, I am willing to try them...just depends. (I was not willing to try putting grapefruit oil in my dd's ears when she had an ear infection- according to my MIL, this works??). Anyway...I use Borax with my laundry! Plus, 10 years ago when I first married, we had this tiny tiny apartment that had roaches, and I bought Borax powder and put it in the corners to help get rid of the roaches...so no, I would NOT give my kids anything that helped get rid of roaches.
My dd's favorite teething toy was a silver rattle. It was always cold and hard, and she loved it. They also have some teething pacifiers out there...they have these little nubs on them.

Just a side note, Borax is also an herb, not just the name of laundry powder.

There are side effects to homeopathic remedies...thinning of the blood, vomitting, allergic reactions, contractions in pregnant women, and lots of others. They do have the ability to hurt you and your child. Many homeopathic remedies should not be mixed with drugs either...so if you do choose to use them, make sure your doctor knows about them.

I prefer Hylands Teething Tablets, they have most of the same ingredients and I think they work well. I agree with pp, medicine is medicine is medicine, whether homeopathic or western, either kind can have side effects.

I love homeopathic remedies but I would NOT use anything containing Belladonna (poison in certain doses) and borax! That doesn't sound right. Sorry. I have used Hyland's teething tablets and Gripe Water is supposed to help.

Thank you all for confirming my worries. I am sure that it is "fine", but when I did a web search on each ingredient separately, none of them seemed to be something I would want my kids to have. And the dosage was 1ml ever 15-20 min for 3 doses and then 1 ml thereafter. That seemed to be alot of any kind of remedy.

I am sure that homeopathic remedies have helped a number of people and have their place (after all, aspirin comes from a derivitate of willow bark!), but we have been through so much with the reflux and just getting to this point, that I am probably extra cautious.

    Thanks!
