I ordered the Sonotrax A/B Pocket Fetal Dopplar and it came in today. Grabbed it from the UPS guy and ran straight to the bedroom. Loaded the batteries, applied the u/s gel and got heartrates immediately (11w5d today). I cried. What I was wondering though was if anyone else had used one of these and were the heart rates about the same as what the doctors office dopplers register? From what I understand a normal rate is 120-160 bpm and one bounced around between 128-135 bpm and the other one was 133-142. This was the first time for us to hear them as at my first ob appointment they did an u/s but got no heartbeats. I was even skeptical about this thing working so I was really surprised that it did!

I use one, but the heart rates on the doppler are off depending on what angle I get the heartbeat from. One thing to know is that most people actually hear the placenta blood rushing to the baby, not the heartbeat when they first start out. Listen for a clip-clop sound that sounds more like a horse running rather than a river rushing sound.

Thank you Ms. Tasha! Obviously that's what I was hearing last night but I went back today while everyone is gone and the whole house is quiet and I was able to hear the "galloping" that you were referring to on both sides after searching around for about 10 minutes. It was such a sweet sound to hear! Now I can't wait to go to the doctor next week to hear them on their machine. Thanks again for your help.

I never had a doppler but I know that everytime I went to my appt. I could have listened to that sound all day long. Very cool!!

I also have been using a doppler on my twins since around 10wks and the rates are typically very close to the doctors rates. One of my babies is usually in the 140's and the other in the 150's. I love using the doppler if I get worried. When I was preggo with my daughter I really didn't use it past 16-18wks, but I still tend to use it with these girls when I get nervous if I haven't felt one of them in a while. Really helps me make it to my next appointment!! They usually start picking up their movements when I use it as I don't think they like it too much!!

A friend was nice enough to lend me her Doppler and it was a life saver. I remember using it early on, then when movement start I would freak if for a day I didn't feel the little buggers. The rates were usually around the same as my doctors results with more use it got easier to decipher what was a heart beat and what wasn't.

I stopped using it around 26 weeks due to the fact that they move daily which has been enough assurance so far. Have fun with it! Don't stress if one day you can't get one of the babies cause they are turned all crazy.

We bought a doppler during our first pg and used it for all of them. It was so reassuring to know that the babies were doing well during those weeks between appointments! The heartrates I found were always pretty close to the Drs office. Sometimes the number itself would combine with my own heartrate so that it appeared lower than it really was. But then I'd move the doppler a bit and it would find the baby's by itself and the number would jump up to normal.
