Kevan & Karina just had their 1-year well visit....mind you, they were five weeks early, and 5-some and 4-some pounds at birth, respectively.

Kevan is now almost 32 inches tall, which is 90%. But Karina is 33.5 inches tall, which is WAY off the charts. She's the height of an average 22-month old. She's not particularly fat -- 23.5 pounds, which is 80%, heavy yet reasonable for her height -- but sheesh! She's just a huge kid!

Did anyone else have really large babies, whose growth slowed down a bit in the toddler years? I'm afraid I'm going to have a giant...poor kid won't have any dates to the prom.

General update -- kiddos are healthy and doing great with milestones, except for Kevan and his oral motor issues. Ped did suggest we contact EI, so we're going that route -- hope they can help him.

Their birthday party was fun, although it managed to be hectic no matter how hard we tried to keep it simple. And then, we drove 12 hours to go to a crazy family wedding -- just got back last weekend, and trying to get back to our regular routine.

I'll leave you guys with some pics:

Your kid's are adorable. Sounds like you had a great appointment with them. Looks like from the picture she might have got some of her height from ther dad. They are alot taller than my girls. MIne are only 28 3/4 long. I love the picture when you are getting ready for the wedding.

Becca, LOVE the pics! The cakes are gorgeous! Did you make those? And my favorite one is the one where you all are dressed up for the wedding. Nice! :good:
Sounds like the kids are doing good. Sorry, no advice for you on the EI. I am wishing Kevan luck with that.

Becca, I can not tell you how much I ADORE those cakes! Tell me you didn't make those yourself so that I can stop beating myself up about the lame cupcakes I ordered for our boys :D . The pictures are beautiful...what a great family! Glad to hear you have gigantic healthy babies

Oooohhh, let me first start off by saying Becca I particularly love the family picture--WOW. It is stunning! I have to ask, is your hubby standing on something or is he really that tall?!

I'm in the same boat as you...HUGE, but not fat, babies. M&A's one-year WBV isn't until 7/18 (ironically was their actual due date; they were born at 37 wks) but I can only imagine where they'll be. At their 9-month in April, they were both 30.5" and 25 lbs. Last week I weighed them here at home and both were 27.5, yikes. They are both in 2T and some 3T outfits, depending on the brand. So funny that you mentioned prom; their Dad and I were joking this past weekend that their prom dates are likely going to be each other, lol.

We're having their party this Saturday afternoon (their b-day is Sunday) so I'll snap plenty of pic's. I'm sure they won't look as good as yours...you are so creative and organized!

Oh yeah, and you can bet she probably stayed up all night and made them from scratch!!! I too just ordered a lame cupcake cake yesterday...after 2nd thought I probably won't post any pictures of it because I'll be too embarrassed after seeing hers :-D

My oldest has been 95% since birth, for both height and weight. Sure, she started off with 9lbs2oz and almost 22 inches but she always stayed on top of the charts (or above). Even at age 4 she was still 95% for height and weight (43lbs and 43") on the US charts. Funny enough she's only 75-80% on the Dutch charts since we're the tallest people in the world and therefore our 50% is higher than in the US! At age 1 she was 25lbs and about 31 3/4 inches if I remember on the top of my head (I am sure about the 25lbs, not sure about the length, but tall). My twins are still big, but not this big, just nicely above average.

She must be pretty tall - my DD is in the 85% for height but 15% for weight and is no where near as tall as yours. Looks like she might have a tall daddy too! The cakes, the kids, and the family is all beautiful!

Mine were both 30" at a year, so I don't really have much to compare that to. Wow, she sounds REALLY tall though! You might have a good sports player on your hands. CUTE pics...I just love that jet black hair! Awesome cakes!!! Did you make those? That wedding picture is really good, love all the traditional wedding clothing...so neat!

Tell you what - my son can take your daughter to the prom - lol.

    They should definitely slow down.

My son is off the charts for weight but I don't think he is fat. Chunky maybe but thats how I like them.

At one year he was 30 lbs 5 oz and 31 1/2 inches. Now at 16 months, he is 32 lbs something and 33 1/2 inches. So definitely slowed down.

My daughter (who was only 3 lbs at birth) was 22 1/2 lbs at 1 year and 29 1/2 inches. And at 16 months was only 23 lbs something.

Sorry appt was distracting so didn't get the ounces for weight. But my point was that in 4 months they had only put on a pound or two. So it had definitely slowed up.

I love the pictures and those cakes are beautiful. How tall is your DH btw?

my dd has pretty much always been off the charts, I take her in Fri for her 2 yr visit so we shall see then, but I know she is as tall as many 3 y/o's!!!

I think my dd will like mommy, tall, big feet, but pretty cute :p My mom used to worry, before the 8th grade I was ALWAYS the tallest in my class, boys and girls!!!

Mine just turned one too. Here are their stats if you care to compare:

    Rowan
    32.25" and 24 lbs

    Anneke
    30.25" and 20 lbs

Can't remember the percentiles now. I don't think yours are that much bigger! Those percentiles can be misleading because you think there's this huge difference between 90th and 20th and then you find out it's only a pound or two.

Sounds like you have a long lean supermodel in the making! :)

Thanks guys! Glad to know there are other big babies out there, so Karina has a potential dating pool, LOL.

Larami, you must be joking -- no way did I make those cakes! I found a local lady who does wedding and special occasion cakes, and ordered them....they were her idea, after seeing the colors on my invitation. Tasty, too, chocolate with strawberry preserves.

Nope, my own cake-making skills are limited to cupcakes from the Cake Mix Doctor, and I suspected I wouldn't have time for even that. :D (And, I went through a big ordeal with Nadia's first birthday cake -- too long and boring to type here -- so I felt justified in splurging this time around.)

Darci, wow, your kiddos are big, too! Are they seriously in some 3T clothing? I am still getting away with 12-18 months, but not for much longer with Karina. We'll have to compare notes after their ped appointment. And, I am laughing that you think I have my stuff together -- not! Back in the day, I used to strive to be Martha Stewart, but it has all gone to pot since the babies arrived. I spend half my days saying, "Oh shoot, we forgot to do XYZ." Their birthday hats with the pictures were also supposed to have cute letters that said Happy First Birthday, but I didn't have time to do them....ah, well...I would love to see your birthday pics next week!

For those who asked, yes, my DH is really that tall at 6'4" -- nearly a foot taller than me. His dad was 6'8", so yeah, my kids come by it honestly -- but I thought for sure my short Indian genes would temper their height a bit, LOL.

Nadia is also off-the-charts at 45", but so skinny that some 3T pants still fit her waist. (NO clue where she gets the skinny!)

[SIZE=10pt]Completely agree with everyone else ~ Your kiddos are so gorgeous Becca!

Glad to hear that both the party and the wedding went well. I know that you were 'stressed' over them both

    I love the family picture!!

The cakes turned out super cute ~ she did a great job! Kevan looks like he really enjoyed his, while Karina is eating hers neat and slow (exactly what Alexis and Peyton did :p )

    As for height ~ they've both got a few inches on A&P :) We went for our 1 year and Alexis was 18lbs & 28 1/2 inches ~ Peyton was 19.2lbs & 29 1/2 inches

I forgot to post/update on our party/WBV ~ guess I should get on that ;)

    April :)

Becca, i was hoping you'd post pictures of you all dressed for the wedding! you guys all look great

wow, karina really is big! can't help you on the dating pool thing, though, except maybe with ally cuz she's a peanut at 10% at both height (28 in, 17 lbs 13 oz) and weight. bear is 29 and just under 24 lbs--at 50%--and their dad is 6ยด3", so it's all to his chagrin LOL

glad they (and you) enjoyed their birthday, those cakes ARE beautiful! and i think the picture on the hats is a great idea, too! what i though were party hats turned out to be a string of party had decorations, so mine had no hats LOL

    thanks for sharing the pics!

My boys are very tall. I am 6 feet and my husband is 6 foot 2 - neither of us are the tallest in our families. So I think it's natural for us to have tall kids. My boys are 16 months and some of their clothes are 3T.

When I was growing up some people made me feel uncomfortable about my height. I ended up being very self conscience. I don't want my boys to feel that way. When people say, "Wow, aren't they tall?!" I say, "Yes, thank you. We're very fortunate." and act as though they've given us the biggest compliment. I want my boys to feel GOOD about themselves and their height - tall or small.

I haven't measured/weighed my girls in about 6 months; they just turned one. But I looked at my eldest's baby book and he was 22 lbs and 34 inches when he was one. He is taller than most of his friends his age, but not uncomfortably so. I'm 6'2" and their dad is 6'4" so I think it is only to be expected.

Beautiful cakes. I feel so lame serving my kids frozen bananas in a graham cracker crust with a couple candles stuck in last minute! Oh yeah- and gorgeous family! :icon_biggrin:

at 1 year Aiden was 32 7/8" tall and 27 lbs. Noah was 31 1/2 " tall and 21 lbs.
Now at 18 mo Aiden was 34 " tall and 31 lbs and Noah was 32 1/2 " tall and 25 lbs.
I can understand the height thing (DH is 6 ft 3 and I'm 5 ft 8) but our weights have always been on the slim side..I think DH is 160 lbs and I was 125lbs before getting preg So who knows what these two will end up looking like when they get older.

All my kids are monsters. The boys have always been in the 90-95% and Becca is in the 100%. They are three years old and weigh something like 37-38 lbs (at least Will does) and are in 5T clothes, thought they can still fit in some 4T. Just depends on where you buy it. Their growth has slowed during this 2-3 year period.

Rebecca is 17.5 lbs and 26.5 inches and she's only 5 months old! Just big baby genes.

Love the pics, by the way!!
