dd eats 6oz every 3hours during the day. she went down at 6:30pm with an 8oz bottle (never done that before) and woke up just now at almost 9 howling. she wouldnt take her paci, she stopped crying for a bit when i picked her up but started after a few minutes and wouldnt fall back to sleep. after trying everything else, burping, moving legs (which did produce a fart..and i got a small burp), i went and got a bottle and she attacked it. shes probably close to 17 1/2lbs by now, 2 weeks ago she was 16lbs 13oz. this has been going on for a good month now where she wakes up and wont go back to sleep without a bottle- a full one at that! if she needed the sucking to go back to sleep wouldnt she take the paci? i thought since she took 8oz before bed she'd sleep longer! if she is having a growth sput, can they really last this long? am i doing something wrong by giving her a bottle? it just seems odd she took soooo much right before bed and then woke up less than 3 hours later and wanted more. i try solids usually every day but she doesnt really care for them. any ideas why she eats so much? we use pampers at night and if i dont change her around 4 or 5 she will soak through to the sheets! there was a good 2 weeks or so about 2 months ago that she sttn, or only woke up around 5 and ate and went back to sleep. am i overfeeding her? im a mess. if she was overeating she'd spit up right? ah

I bet it's a growth spurt unless there is another time of the day that she is eating less. I hope it subsides soon and you both get more sleep!

while making bottles i just had a horrible thought. because she only will eat from a propped bottle, and usually drifts off for a nap after finishing it, or during it, is it possible she associates eating with sleep and comfort? IM supposed to be her comfort, not a bottle. i hold her and play with her as much as i can, i feel like crying. did i screw my kid up?

Aw *hugs* No, you did not screw your kid up. Sometimes they go through phases, be it from a growth spurt or just a phase of eating more, of waking at times they normally don't. I think for the first year it is ever changing as to what they do, what they want and need. I know I feel like it is one big guessing game. You didn't screw up your little one. *hugs*

 No you didnt screw em up! E will only drink from the bottle if he holds it and then its propped. He spits it out an off to sleepy land he goes. D prefers to snuggie when he eats then a paci does him off to dream land. Its a process. If shes hungry feed her. Growth spurts can last awhile. Once this stage has passed she will prob. calm down to her routine again.

we went through a stage for a week or more where DS got up every night - I swore I wasn't going to feed him - it had been months since he took a bottle in the night - he needs to learn to self soothe yadda yadda yadda...well one night after about 2 hours of rocking and soothing etc I finally got the kid a bottle - in 5 minutes it was gone and he was sound asleep...this went on for a week although after the first night I knew what to expect....

moral of the story - after that bump in the road he started STTN again with no food....
