Last week I experienced my first foot swelling. Today, I went to the funeral of one of my best friends of over 16 years. It was hot, and the ceremony included a lot of standing up and sitting down. the reception afterwards was outside, I got to sit in a chair, but it was very hot- I had to drive 2 hours each way, a friend was visiting and at home it was hot....

So took off my boots after I dropped her off at BART, and OMG I don't know where my ankles went, I now have 'cankles'!

Has anyone experienced this much swelling this early? I know having to stand up and down a lot, and the head didn't help, but I feel ridiculous...

I would think that's pretty normal just as long as your blood pressure is good. I was a swollen mess the whole way through...i'm sure i just wasn't as hydrated as i could of been besides other things. The heat doesn't help. Put your feet up and make sure your drinking A TON of water daily. It really does make a difference. If the swelling continues at an alarming rate...call the doctor to double check everything.

I only swelled that early when I was working (I am an RN and was working 12 hr shifts). I always noticed the correlation between being on my feet (or up and down) and my feet and ankles swelling and aching. Now that I am a bit further along I really notice it. Even if I am only up doing laundry and cleaning for a couple of hours..between the heat and weight gain my poor body!! The only way to make it better or prevent it is rest and lots of water. Also throw on some compression hose or stockings (if you can stand to in the heat) if you know you are gonna be on your feet for long periods of time. You can buy them at a medical supply store or scrubs store or your doc can prescribe them.

I did this starting at about 16 weeks with the twins and am starting it now this time.

Drink plenty of fluids and rest with your feet elevated above your heart when you can...that helps some.

By 20 weeks, I was on diuretics for the rest of the pregnancy my swelling was so bad...keep an eye on things, and if it gets real bad or doesn't seem to go get better or go down over night, tell your doc.
