This just started a couple of hours ago. Im not sure whats wrong or what I should do. He had surgery on his penis on June 21st for a hypospadias and circ. repair. Should I go to the emergency room?

Hope your little guy is alright... I would take him to see the doc too.. is it red?... does he have a fever?...those are questions I'd ask myself too. Has he wet his diaper recently...perhaps he has a UTI from the surgery that took time to build up??...I feel for you...my little guy had a hernia repair back in May, and it was sooo hard to see him go in for surgery over such a vital area....

I understand what you are experiencing. Jaydon had his first surgery at 20 months to repair a 3rd degree hypospadias. He will be having a final surgery in 2008. He'll 6-years old then. I am not sure how severe your son's condition was/is, but Jaydon experienced UTI's (before and after surgery) as well as yeast infections (prior to the surgery only). Since your son already has a urologist (the one that performed the surgery), I would give him/her a call. I take no chances with Jaydon when he complains because kids with hypospadias tend to get infections more easily even after surgery. UTI's can lead to kidney infections.

I also would take him. You don't want him to be in pain if it can be avoided. Does he seem feverish? Let us know how he is doing. :hug99:

    Thank you all!

He is doing just fine. No fever, he is urinating, playful. Yesterday he started to grab his private and I thought that might be a sign that he was ready to be potty trained...I WAS SO WRONG. I called his ped about an hour ago and asked her if I should go to the emergency room. She said no because it doesnt seem that bad. However, I have to be at her office first thing tomorrow morning. I will keep you ladies posted. Thanks again, I dont know who else to ask!

Glad you are taking him in. My son has had 1 UTI, no fever, just cried when he peed, in the beginning he only whinned occationally but over the course of 2 weeks (it took 2 weeks and finally an ER visit because the ped didnt think he had one). Anyways, he wouldnt pee in a cup so they did have to do a cathetar which didnt work. So finally they put this little plastic cup type thing around his penis and I had to move it to a cup and take it to the lab since he held it in the entire time we were at the ER. Anyways, he went on meds and was fine within a few days

We went to the ped today. She also called his urologist. They sent him home with meds and said no swimming for two weeks. He seems good. Thank you all for you advice.
