holding bottles?

I've been wondering when to introduce sippy cups, but my babies do not hold their own bottles. Sometimes they'll rest their hands on them, or push on them some, but they don't support them at all. How old were your kids when they held their bottles by themselves? And when (if at all) did you introduce sippy cups?

    thanks

Sorry I don't have good news for you....my two are 11 months and still don't hold their own bottles. I recently bought handles that can be put on their bottles but have yet to try them out.

As for sippies...I introduced them at around 8 months. They still don't quite "get" it. They usually just chew them and throw them on the floor. They might get a sip or two of water before it lands on the floor. The cup they will hold and put to their mouths (to chew on ;) however)

My girls started doing it around 7 or 8 months, however they needed to be laying on a pillow because they didn't understand the bottle needed tipped up. They didn't started catching onto that until about 8 1/2 -9 months so we have just been able to start giving them bottles or sippy cups at meals.

One of my babies (6 months today) holds her own bottle, the other doesn't. My pediatrician said that anytime after solids are introduced you can also introduce sippy cups.

My girls started grasping the concept of holding a sippy around 6 months. BUT...they didn't start holding their bottle until about 9. Go figure! :) I say give it a try.

When we had EI here for an evaluation, one of the PT's suggested a way to help them learn to hold their bottles. She said to put their hands on the bottle and guide it to their mouth. While they are drinking, brings their elbows very close to their body.

Mine still don't hold their own bottles, and seem to have no interest in it at all! We introduced sippy cups around 8 months ... and they hold them, bite them, and occasionally drink from them ... right now i think they just look at them as another toy!

Mine will do it now if I put them on a pillow but I don't really make them, they end up with it all over the place. You can just try and give them the sippy here and there. Mine will hold it and put it up to their mouth they just won't actually suck out any liquid.

We introduced sippy's between 6 and 7 months and while they get the concept of tipping those back, the other way they will hold and drink their bottles is if they are laying down on a boppy pillow. They just don't get tipping the bottle up and back. Oh and they really only started consistently holding their bottles in the last month.

I introduced sippies at 6 months. James will hold his and actually gets water out of it if it's really full. Evan doesn't hold his own. My boys are 10.5 months old and show no sign of holding their own bottles. They only ever take an ounce out of their sippies, no matter what I put in there. We won't be giving up bottles at a year if they don't improve their sippy skills, but that's okay with me.

Never held their bottles but learned the sippy concept at 10 months.

Mine were just about 10 months before they really starting holding them and even that they were sitting reclined in their bouncys. It took them a bit longer to realize how to tip it up when sitting up. But we did introduce sippy cups when they were in their highchairs probably around 7 months. At that time it was just for practice, but it didnt take them long to figure it out once they were holding their bottles, the sippys came quick.

11.5 months, they held them a couple times then they were done with bottles. They think they are princesses. :)

Mine were 11 months but I think I could have done it a little bit sooner. I don't think at 7 months they would have been ready but I have heard of kids who could. The main trick I found to get them to do it was to lay them on the floor with a couple of pillows (I used a boppy and a regular pillow for each of them) and then lay them down so that they are laying but not flat. They have a really hard time at first figuring out how to tilt the bottle to get the milk so laying them down solves that problem. Even laying down, they will at first have problems getting the very last of the milk so I had to really teach them. I would put their hands around the bottle and stick it in their mouth at the right angle and let go. At first they may drop it but just be consistent. They have to learn how to hold their arms up in the proper posistion so it takes a little getting used to but they will get it, especially if they are really hungry ;)

I did find it so much easier when they were finally able to hold their own bottles. I would plop them in front of one of their Playhouse Disney shows and let them drink away. Eventually when they get really good at it, they will be able to drink it while moving around and once they start walking, the hard part is trying to find where they dropped the bottles
