OK, I know this sounds totally random, but over the last week, DD1 has begun hitting herself in the head. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. She isn't doing it hard and she laughs afterwards. :pardon: It probably shouldn't bother me so much, but I can just see her at the church nursery hitting herself in the head and laughing. DD2 does not do it. Please tell me someone else has had a child who found it humorous to do something like this and that they *quickly* outgrew it!

It sounds like she is just doing it for fun. Try not to let it bother you. If she hurts herself accidentally, I bet she will quit though.

I will say that my nephew did that too starting at about age one for a few months. The difference being that he did it when he got mad or upset. He actually would hit his head on the floor or against a wall or something instead of hitting himself. It was funny to watch, but not funny in truth. It didn't last long thankfully.

My DS did it out of frustration and my DD used to imitate him for fun. I found the less of a reaction I gave (as hard as it was to do)...the less they started to do it. It is a phase that thankfully passes!

What Nancy said!! :acute: My guys think it's funny to bang their heads on the high chair headrests. My mother started saying "OUCH" when the did it, and they think it's hysterical. They'll even do it then sign "hurt". :gah: I finally told my mother (and DH) to stop responding and ignore it, and they now do it MUCH less. They still do it occasionally, but only a couple of times, then they lose interest because we're not reacting.

My dd started doing it when I was trying to get her to stop hitting me. I would say "no hit" and then she would hit herself, crazy girl. She started doing it for fun for a while and would do it anytime I said no to anything (which nowadays is a lot). No worries, it was a very short-lived phase!
