hit a plateau with potty training

I guess I've been working with them (on and off) for a few months now. I have one who is very good about using the potty if he's naked in the house. If he's in pullups though (in or out of house) he will just go in them and not tell me. If he's in underwear he will go in them and tell me. He does go for a couple hours staying dry. I've worked with him on pulling pants and undies up and down himself, but I think it's still pretty tricky for him (especially when he's balancing on a step stool!). And now I've met a lot of resistance with using the potty in public places (he was pretty compliant a few weeks ago). I'm just not sure where to go from here. I hate just taking a complete break (ie using pull-ups all the time) when I know he has some level of control. But I'm feeling pretty stressed with the clothing changes and don't want to keep pushing undies if he needs more time.

I don't remember all this uncertainty with potty training my other two. Twins are trickier I think!

Well, there's nothing wrong with taking a break if you are getting too frustrated. However, with one of my boys, I had to try something different. He, too, was wonderful while naked. And when I put underwear on him, he wet it. I started doing pants without underwear...it worked. It's looser, so it feels less like a diaper. And, it's easier to get up and down. I still do that when we go out in public for long periods with him...that's the only way I can guarantee he'll stay dry.

I would take a break. I had with my older twin. We did great for 2 weeks with 90% success and then he did not want to do it anymore. So I put him back in diapers and after 2 weeks in diapers he decided to start taking them off and going in the potty himself. We have been fully trained ever since.

PS I would go back to acutal diapers....save the pull ups for when he is ready to try again. Make it a reward. Diapers are so much cheaper than pull ups. Keep in mind I rarely use pull ups...it is usually naked or undies.
