I went to change Nathan's diaper this AM and noticed that his penis (shaft) is very swollen and had pus on the end! :icon_eek: I got a wipey and was looking to get the pus off and when I squeezed (here is the real TMI part) LOTS of pus came out! It was thick and yellow and I was oh so grossed out. :bad: He is not circumsized (if that could matter) so I was trying to pull it back a bit to make sure it was clean when there was all the pus. This didn't seem to bother him (didn't seem painful) and he's up playing around. Last night around 3am he did wake up crying (more like sobbing). But it's not uncommon for him to do this because I was going to ask about bad dreams...but now I wonder if he peed and it hurt and woke him up.

Has anyone had something like this? I will call the doctor this AM, but the office is not open yet so I thought I would see what you expert mommy's had to say. :)

    Thanks

Antibiotics and loads of cleaning. I would definitely see the doc or go to the ER. I hope he is better soon. :hug99:

My guy had this. Took him to the emergency room because it was after hours. I don't advise doing this though as they gave him a catheta to get a urine sample, my DH said he was in so much pain as they just rammed it in. I wish I had been there and I regret it to this day. Anyway he had a bladder infection and has urinary reflux, he's on lose dose antibiotics, it usually fixes itself with time. I would go to the doc and get him some antibiotics. poor little man.

I don't have boys but if it is a baldder infection they will most likely have to cath him anyway but you can ask for topical ansetic. Hope he gets well soon. :hug99:

I HATE my ped's office!! *UGH* I called them 1 hour ago (when the office opened) and had to leave a message because there were "two calls ahead of me." They still haven't called me back. this is always happening...I am so tired of them. It is so hard to get an appt. Anyhow...sorry about this extra mini vent. At least it doesn't seem to be bothering him a lot...he is still playing and smiling.

At least he doesn't feel bad. I'd keep calling every 30 minutes(and leave more messages) until they call you back

well, he's been prescribed some antibiotics. One topical and one oral. The doctor didn't seem to concerned at this point but if it becomes a regular occurance I might have to look into circumsizeing him. We go back in 10 days. There were no tests to determine what the cause was.

    Thanks for your help ladies!

Rhea, I am glad that things are going to work out ok. I hope that he does not need to be circumcised after all. :hug99:

My doctor sticks an adhesive bag around the penis for half an hour or so to catch the urine, it is much less painful and stressful. Insist on this if you can, I know I will from now on. I would get some tests and a second opinion before you resort to circumcision. Keep us updated.

I'm glad he's doing okay -- hopefully the antibiotics will work and this won't happen again. If you do end up needing him to be circumcised, Dr. Barry LoSasso at Children's is AWESOME. He did my oldest sons circ when he was 8 (he had a banded foreskin and it was a medical necessity) and Brian recovered well. He also did Lucas's inguinal hernias and circumcision and will be doing Lucas & Matthew's epigastric hernia repairs (and Matthew's circ) on 8/31 as well as Nicholas's circ on 9/10. I worked with all of the doctors at Children's for 5 years and would only take my children to Dr. LoSasso -- he's the best! (Not to say the others aren't great, he just has such great bedside manner and his surgeries are so precise -- I have seen very few complications from his patients.)

Thanks for the tip! We are not resorting to snipping just yet. It is way to soon. The doc only said if it starts happening a lot then we might want to "think" about it. We took the boys to the beach last weekend and were wondering if perhaps some sand worked it's way up there...? Who knows. I am just happy that it's already getting better. :D :D

I'd keep a real close eye on it from now on expecially after the beach.

I'm happy he's getting better. That's the first time I've heard of a problem with an un-circ'd baby. The few posts I've seen on twinstuff have to do with circumcision problems, such as re-adhering of the skin. Anyway, I'm glad the antibiotics are working. Does you DS's foreskin already retract? My son's still seems very tight.

I'm glad it didn't seem to cause him too much pain!
