If you're considering hiring a baby nurse when you come home with your twins, I have a recommendation. I hired a baby nurse to help me the first month at home and I would HIGHLY recommend her. She will travel anywhere. She has done many sets of twins and is absolutely wonderful. She charges $14/hour and lives with you. You provide room and board and she will take care of you and your babies, including laundry. She is well-educated, has lived abroad, and has her degree in Physical Therapy. She is proficient in premature infants and their needs. She blends in to your household seamlessly and you will love her instantly. Nichole has worked for numerous OB-GYNs and their infants and knows so much about how to care for babies and a recovering mother it is unbelievable.

This is the best gift I've ever given myself, and the grandmothers pitched in too, which was so nice. Her number is 251 680 3332.

We saved and budgeted for it. We're older, so our parents are older and were too nervous about helping with such tiny babies. So, we all pitched in so I could have some skilled help in the beginning. I also had to get back to work quickly as I was on bedrest for 12 weeks prior to delivery. If I didn't have to work, I could have managed. I know how hard it was to find a qualified baby nurse when I was looking, so if your situation calls for this service, Nichole would do a great job for you.

Would you mind sharing how many hours/ day you paid for? Was she available to help during the night too? How long did you have her for? thanks

Thanks for the recommendation. I just found out I'm pregnant and the dr. told he she thinks I"m having twins based on high HCG levels (and fertility drugs) but I won't get u/s confirmation until Thursday. I have an 11 month old now and am freaking out at the prospect of having twins so I am already considering hiring help.

Does she have an email address that you could forward or is phone the best way? If she has to travel to New Orleans where we live, do I have to pay her for 24 hours each day or does she take some hours off? Any insight on whether you thought a month was too long or not long enough? Did she help get the twins on a schedule? Does she have her own car?

I used a baby nurse from a co. out of Mobile with my first child and she was worthless so I"m just hesitant to make that same mistake again as she sat and watched TV and watched me do EVERYTHING. But if it is twins, I will need all the help I can get.

Sorry to bombard you with so many questions. Thanks again for your help.

PS- do you have to reserve her far in advance?

Wow..that sounds awesome! But there's no way we could even save to be able to afford that on military pay with two older kids!

I paid for 24 hours a day at the very first, then 20 hours a day for the next couple of weeks (she went off the clock from 2pm-6pm), then we went to 15 hours a day (6pm - 9am and she was off days). She has her own car and lives in Fairhope, AL (near Mobile!), so driving to New Orleans wouldn't be a problem at all. She lived in New Orleans for a few years actually. She doesn't have email as she's always at someone's home and isn't tech savvy enough to do email on her phone, so the cell # I gave is best. She is usually booked pretty far in advance, but I think she has some openings. She's super nice and very easy to talk to, so just give her a call and discuss any questions and concerns with her. She charges a reasonable rate for driving to your home, and will also run errands for you and bill you for mileage for using her car if you want her to do that.

Nicole will work on getting the babies scheduled, but newborns take a little while to get regulated. We actually had her stay on longer than a month just working part time as she didn't have another full time client, so if you can swing it, book her longer than a month. It all depends on how much hubby can help, and relatives. I had no family help and DH travels for work, so she was a necessity for me.

Nicole is a very hard worker and knows that her job is to take the load off of Mom so she can recover and make milk, and get back to work if that is the case, and is very pleasant company on top of it. We jokingly call her a vampire as she loves staying up at night, so working nights is her forte. She's single, 45 years old and has a daughter in college.
