So, to give the back story really quick, I'm at 33w, and somehow I lost three lbs. over the past two weeks (instead of gaining two or more lbs.). I'm not quite sure how it happened (babies' metabolisms? They're wild children! or maybe just getting fuller faster), and the doctor didn't seem too worried since I've been on track for most of the pregnancy, but she definitely didn't want the trend to continue!!

Anyway, people gave some great suggestions for higher calorie snacks that still have nutritional value, and I thought if anyone were in a similar situation, it might be helpful for them as well. Here are some of everyone's suggestions, and a few of my own. Feel free to contribute if you have any ideas!

    *ice cream (dairy, protein, calcium)
*nutella (can be spread on anything from wheat toast to fruit for an added calorie boost)
*fast food cheeseburgers (iron, protein, dairy, fat)
*Taco Bell burritos (meat, beans, dairy, veggies)
*mozzarella cheese sticks (dairy, protein, can be dipped in pasta sauce for extra veggies/vitamin C)
*banana bread with PB (haven't tried this yet, but someone suggested that the potassium in bananas can help with leg cramps--and I don't like straight bananas! Plus protein/fat from PB)
*toast with butter and jam (calcium, fruit, grains)
*whole wheat waffles with PB (whole grains, protein, fat)

I also do cottage cheese, apples with peanut butter, maybe protein bars sometimes... but then again, I also do Halloween candy. That stuff is evil. No wonder these babies are so active - they're hopped up on sugar!

I like the Special K Protein Bars..although I'm not sure of the caloric information on them..I basically used them for their protein content! I would suggest anything w/ nuts or peanut butter.

milkshakes are great (and they help with the evil heartburn too)!

I drank chocolate milkshakes with extra protein powder every night. I was not in danger of losing weight (I gained 2 lbs a week through almost the whole pregnancy  ) but I was soooo hungry.

Also a lot of protein bars. My OB said to watch out for "power bar" type things because if you eat too many, you can get too high a dose of certain vitamins and minerals. But the ones that are just protein are OK.

I also put cheese on just about everything. And I ate whole-grain bagels with peanut butter.

McD's breakfast sandwiches are good and will certainly give you some calories!

Banana bread is yummy, but I'm not sure you'd get enough banana in one serving to really help with the potassium. For that, it would be more effective to mix one in your milkshake or smoothie.
