I got the go ahead from the doctor to start the girls on stage 1 baby food. Now I'm searching the market for highchairs. I don't want to spend a lot of money but I want something that will obviously last. Can you gals offer any suggestions?

    TIA

We have Chicco high chairs that I love. They are a little over $100 each, but they are very washable, very adjustable, and not too "loud" in the coloring.

this is what we're using & we love them! they're super portable & we'll be able to use them as booster seats when the girls are older.

(the link is to the Canadian BRU, but i expect the US site will have them as well)

Those would be great if I had chairs! LOL we don't have a dining room or a dining room table. I have a bar type deal in the kitchen but no table.

We started out with the Fisher Price ones that can attach to your own kitchen/dining chairs and they were great. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?pr.../TRUSCA/2567270

Then once the kids got a little older we switched to the Ikea chairs, also great and totally cheap and easy to clean. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30069724 Also available in red. Tray is available for $5! What a deal!

Now that the boys are 2 we are back to the Fisher Price chairs, but just pushed up to the table without the trays. They also come in really handy for taking to grandma's, etc.

We use the Ikea ones outside now - the trays can come off so you can push them up to the table.

Not too much money spent - great chairs!

Whatever you do DON'T get the Fisher Price Zen chairs. Yes they are really nice looking but the tray is driving me nuts! I thought it would be worth the splurge since I have to have 2 of them and our dining room, kitchen, etc. is all one great room right off the front door. The trays have a plastic snap on liner that's dishwasher safe. Great except my tiny 12 pound baby can pop those right off and dump her food on the floor. So now we have to use the base tray. Even with the most careful hand washing, water gets inside the tray and then drips all over the place when you carry it back to the seat. I called FP and they told me the tray is only meant to be wiped clean with a cloth. Are you freaking kidding me????

I love my graco contempo, especially now with two of them, because they fold up so small and I can slide them to the side out of the way!

I have a blue checked pattern from my previous kids and bought this one the other day, it was the only one babiesrus had in stock but it's cute enough!

I'm so jealous!! I tried so hard to get a couple of those, but it wouldn't let me order them online (or the shipping was horrendous or something) and the only store in our state never had them in stock when I was there. :( Then there was this whole drama of "Oh, we'll get some of those tonight" then the next they said "Oh, they're coming tuesday instead" so I gave up and got one that attaches to the table, one my MIL got from a thrift store that makes me nervous and is a bit too big for my boys and one that was my DH's when he was a baby that's not very safe.

As to the OP, my only recommendation is to make sure you get two. Don't try to live with just one for a while. Yep, intrducing solids has been an adventure around here!

    GL!

We love our Graco wooden high chairs. They convert to bar stools (children's size) so they'll really last! We get a lot of compliments on them and they match our home decor.

You might have to roll up a receiving blanket or towel and stick in beside the child to keep them upright until they get a bit bigger and more stable, but that's no big deal.

We use the space savers from fisher price for that go in the chair but over at my moms we use the restaurant style. She found them at the restaurant supply for around 45.00 each. We used the bounce chair in the beginning. Good luck

I've been using the bouncy seats to "practice" cereal with my girls....but that is just b/c my hubby had not gotten one of the high chairs out of the attic and the other put together. We have two fisher price high chairs. They are similar, but not the same. They both fold up and have wheels. I loved the wheels b/c I could put my son in it and push him around the kitchen while I was cooking and could put toys on the tray (and later snacks, etc) while I cooked or did whatever I was needing to. We also used the booster seat with tray with my son when he got older - they are great b/c they are portable and work perfectly as booster seats once they outgrow the high chairs. We picked up a second one at a consignment sale to have two for our girls.

Although, last night we did get both high chairs out and put together...and they do take up a good bit of room. Our old house was bigger than our current house and I'm starting to feel cramped with all the baby gear. I'm glad they fold up, but in reality I won't be folding them up and putting them away too much.

We have two of the Graco Disney/Pooh high chairs. We love them. They are big enough to be used for a looooong time. The trays are large and have a top that pulls off to wash easily so you don't have to lug the whole heavy top to the sink. It adjusts height and back and has a vinyl covered fabric seat cover so it easily rinses off too. Everything about it is convenient. We got them at Walmart, about $75 each. Girls have been using them for probably 6 or 7 months with no complaints from me.

I should also mention, I did the same thing as other posters, used the bouncy seat first before transitioning them to the "big" highchair.

    Ikea, Ikea, Ikea!
They cost $19.99 and $5 each for the tray and infant cushion. They are so amazingly easy to clean and my babies are very comfortable in them. They stack too.

They legs pop off easily and I have heard of families who take them when visiting friends and restaurants.

This is my very best purchase yet.

We have these as well and LOVE LOVE LOVE them.
I know you said you dont have chairs but honestly I think youd be better off buying 2 folding chairs and these! These can turn into booster chairs and are great for restaurants/vacation etc.
Completely dishwasher safe, made from plastic no cloth parts to clean, about 26.00 ea at walmart.
What are you guys going to do to sit down for "family dinner" ? You can also strap these to barstools if you have those :)

I don't think we will be in this house when they are finally able to sit down at a dinner table to eat with us. We just needed something so that they wouldn't be eating off the floor or sitting in their boppys. they can sit up assisted really well so that's why i was thinking more along the lines of highchair.

If you want value for your money, I suggest going trayless.
We had highchairs similar to the Stokke chairs, they are very expensive. We had BIL who is a carpenter make ours which was less than ordering a Stokke
    http://www.stokke-highchair.com/en-us/trip...-highchair.aspx
But adults can sit in the Stokke chair so you can use it--FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. My brother-in-law's version probably wound't hold an adult since he used plywood, even though I TOLD him not to. But these chairs will adjust to your table, bar, counter top height and grow with they children. We sold ours when the girls turned 4, but they were still using them up until the day we sold them.

A cheaper option would be to go with a restuarant style trayless high chair
    http://www.webstaurantstore.com/suffixitem...GHCHAIR/WA.html
The disadvantage here is they are not height adujstable, but still you will use them until they are past the toddler stage.

I think having your baby at the table with you is a very important part of developing good eating habits and table manners. Why have your baby off to the side? Isn't the baby part of the family too?

ETA: I just saw your last post, I first fed my girls in their SBS stroller, I'd just wheel it into the kitchen, sit at the table and feed them. We got their highchairs when they were around 9 months. Family dinners don't have to wait, I always gave them something to eat when we were eating, starting before they started solids.

absolutely, having your family eat together is so important but for right now they are too little to eat at the table with us and are in bed by the time we eat dinner. we are moving out of state in a few years so we will have a dining room and table by then. the stokke chairs are awesome! i've seen these before.

i was looking at this if anyone has one I would love to hear your thoughts on them: graco blossom 4-in-1

I'm very interested in something that will grow with them.
