I don't plan to start solids until they hit 6 months, but one of the things to look for to see whether or not they are ready is "interest in what you are eating." The problem is that I rarely eat in front of these two except for a snack here and there. I'm alone wil them all day so I eat when they nap, and at night, we usually either let them play on the floor while we eat or if it's a fussy night, trade off who eats first. We rarely have them in the dining room with us. Once in a while I bring them in in an infant seat, but usually only if I have visitors eating with me so I know we'll be chatting. Long story short: if they don't sit with us when we eat, how will they show an interest?

So my question is, how soon can I put them in high chairs? I think they would enjoy sitting in them in the dining room while we eat dinner, but I bought mine used and don't know the minimum age/weight for it. I looked up some other graco ones online (couldn't find this model) and it looked like 6 months...is that right? If so, where do you put yours while you eat so they can watch until then?

We just started putting the boys in their high chairs this weekend (they were 5 months on Thanksgiving). They had sat with us at the table before and they are VERY interested in everyone else's food. They crack me up when they watch so intently what goes into our mouths. I think they enjoy being in their seats. I can't wait til they can sit up well enough to use the wooden ones at restraunts because that will make going out to dinner so much easier!

I started putting them at 5.5 months I think, but just with toys etc. They never saw us eat either, and even now when they do they really don't seem to care. If your chairs recline, it's probably safe to put them in there now if you feel like it.

I didn't sit the twins in them until 6 mos. when I started solids. My older children sat in them reclined a bit earlier. (It was too much work with two! lol)

We started the high chairs around 5-6 months. At first ours did not like it (they were used to eating in their bumbo seats) but then they came around to it.

6.5 months. Before that they ate in their bouncy chairs. They've been on solids since 4.5 months though.

Right when ours moved to 2 solid meals a day at 6 months. DS isn't quite as stable as DD is when it comes to "sitting", so I put a few small dish towels down the sides of him to keep him in one place more securely. I use the tray tables to hold their plastic bibs in place so that nobody can screw them up and bury their face them (food splattered of course).

we started bringing them in the kitchen w/us when we eat at around 3-4 months. they enjoyed keeping us company, and definitely started paying a lot of attention to us eating after a few weeks. we put them in their high chairs and fed them their first meal of baby organic oatmeal at 5 months adjsted (8 months chronological, and the doc had been encouraging us for 3 months already!).

as long as they can hold their heads up well, i think it's ok..... but i really encourage you to get them in the room w/you while you eat! it's a nice family time and it's good for them to watch you. put them in bouncies, bumbos, whatever they'll sit it!

    take care, jl

I'm going to start [try to] this afternoon. They've been quite interested in what we've been eating.. They'd just stare at us like, "hey, that looks good. Could I try some of that?!"
