High Chairs... how long do you use them for...

Oh my, I totally hate our Chicco Polly high chairs... so many things about them to hate.

#1 the seat back leans back even in the upright position... which means
#2 the tray never gets close enough... which means
#3 food gets dropped in the chair all the time!

They are hard to clean, and the babies don't sit upright and I could go on and on... they said not to wash the vinyl covers, but I've finally put them in the washer and they do come out ok... so at least that is getting better...

(my inlaws bought a used one that works better than ours! and I'm tempted to get rid of ours...)

so, my 1st question... how long are they going to be in high chairs? ours haven't accomplished using utensils yet... and I like keeping them strapped in.

my 2nd question... I'm debating on selling the high chairs and just getting something I like better... either new or second had... anyone love theirs for the reasons I hate mine??! thanks for any suggestions!

Mine are still in high chairs (or booster seats attached to a chair) we use this brandSafety 1st 5 in 1 seat
It's pretty easy to clean and portable if you want it to be. It's pretty much grown with the kids and I am pretty happy with it. I'm not sure when I will be comfortable with them sitting at the table (literally) with us. I think I want to wait until they get much better with utensils. Good luck on your decision!

I absolutely love our high chairs and I recommend them to anyone who asks. We have these ones: www.keekaroo.com

The best part for me is that they can hold up to 250 pounds, and the seat and footrest adjust, so these can be my kids desk chairs when they outgrow high chairs. They're super easy to clean up, no hidden seams or cracks, you can put a tray on them or pull them right up to the table, and there are straps for when you need them. Best $150 I've spent.

Oh - I should mention that I did just what you're considering doing... I got rid of the awful plastic and cloth high chair that we registered for and hated. We used them for about six months and gave up because they were always dirty.

I got some Safety 1st booster chairs just last month, so the girls were 14 months. We don't use the trays but can still strap the girls into the chairs and use our kitchen chairs. They fit perfectly under the table so they're not sticking out or taking up space. I love them. I absolutely hated cleaning my highchairs. It's so much easier just to clean the kitchen table!

This week we took the girls out of their high chairs and put them in booster seats at the big table. It's working out great for us! :good:

I hated our high chairs too for similar reasons---especially cleaning them---and decided to get the Fisher Price Deluxe Care boosters at Target:

I LOVE them! We travel to visit family and they are so easy to take with us. I actually feed mine in the living room, on the floor. They like sitting in them..and the best part. EASY clean up and no yucky nooks and crannies for food to get trapped in!

My two came out of highchairs around 18 months. :good: I got booster seats and put them by the table (couldn't find a link to them :sorry: ) but they started eating better almost immediately. They enjoyed being at the table with us! Good luck!!

Thanks ladies!! I resisted getting the booster seats - a few friends suggested these... I will look at those again. And that Keekaroo chair looks interesting too! I definitely need to cut my losses with these and move on to something else - for my sanity!

Mine were in high chairs with the trays until 2. Now they use the chairs without the trays at the table.
