High Chair recommendations?

My girls turned 6 months old last week, so it's time to be thinking about high chairs. We have a small house, so I'm looking for foldable ones. We eat at a high island (space saver/storage), so they would need to be tall enough to reach when they get bigger. Any ideas?

We like our Graco Contempos (both in Melbourne pattern). They're stable, have a crotch bar and a good 5-point harness. Both the eating tray and harness can be released with one hand but they're designed so they can't be released from the chair (i.e. the baby can't release them). The whole chair can adjust both up/down and reclining/sitting up, and has a removable machine-washable seat-pad and a dishwashable tray table insert. It also comes with a second seat-pad that you can swap out. It's very compactable though we keep ours up all the time so I'm not sure how easy it is to do. The two things I don't like about it are that the straps aren't removable for cleaning and the tray table insert doesn't completely cover the bottom part of the tray table so I end up having to hand-wash it anyway. Depending on what pattern you pick they're from $90-110.

I'm also a graco contempo fan, it folds up flat to about 8 in wide, and can slide up against a wall or behind a table if necessary. Ditto everything the pp said! Love love love mine! :D

When I first saw this title, my first thought was, "Don't get one!" LOL! I don't know if a Fisher Price Space Saver would work or not with your kitchen set up-but I've heard great things about them.

My problem with the highchairs-is you have to clean them ALL THE TIME! And three times a day, times two kids, gets OLD. FAST! LOL! Whatever you choose-make sure it's easily cleaned. Don't make my mistake-WOOD, vinyl backing that CAN'T be washed... Just make sure you can clean it easily! I would say that it the most important feature. I sure wish I got the space saver!

I had the Fisher Price Space Saver ones & we liked them. They strap onto a regular chair so that they don't take up a lot of extra room. They were easy enough to clean & converted to booster seats when the little ones were ready for them.

We have the Fisher Price Space Saver for our 3 year old. Of course he doesn't need it now but he still loves to sit in it. He doesn't use the tray. We just push it right up to the table. It really has been great and we plan on getting another one so the twins both have one. It really has saved us a lot of space!!

We also have the FP space saver ones, this was our best baby purchase. I started using them when the boys were only 4 months old and less than 15lbs for tandem bottle feeding (great recline feature). I like how they have/will be able to grow with the babies; plus they take up no extra room in my very small apartment.

I used our bumbo chairs to feed them in on top of the table until they were almost ten months old. Then I got these super cheap high chairs from IKEA. They were only thirty dollars a piece. They are sturdier than they look but your child does need to be able to sit up well on their own because they are not very supportive. I also like the fact that they are all hard plastic so they are very easy to clean. They stack one on top of each other so they don't take up to much room. We used a travel chair with my first son which worked great but with the twins we didn't want to use up all the chairs at the table so I thought I would try these. So far I am happy with them but if you are looking for something luxurious these don't really fit the bill. Also the legs pop off really easy so they are great for travel. Best of luck with your search

This may not work for you, but we live in a small house and LOVE our twin table. Easy to clean, and good for all sorts of things. Because of a small house, we have it set up in our living room, but I'd rather that than high chairs!

I use the Fisher Price boosters and LOVE them. DH picked this product out for my oldest son when we needed a high chair and he wins big kudos for it. It's about $25, easy to clean (WHY do they put fabric on high chairs?!), takes no extra space, adapts to any chair, and travels great. We do quite a bit of traveling to see family and these are great for that. Use it w/ the tray when they're little and then push it up to the table when they get bigger. DS used it until he was 3+. The twins are 5mos and currently use them. A great (and small!) investment!!

Addendum to my earlier post about the Graco Contempo - The straps are removable after all for hand washing, though I had to call Graco to find out how to do it. :)

We have the Fischer Price space savers. We live in a small house so they work really well strapped right onto our exsisting chairs. HOWEVER if I could go back in time, I would get the Fischer Price boosters instead. We have found that because the supports for the tray are not removable, we can't get the boys close enough to the table in the booster part of the space saver seats. In general the space savers have been great and we still use them every day, we'll just need to be investing in actual booster seats soon as well and that isn't something we though of when our boys were still so small.

We also have the Fisher Price Booster (We have the Rain Forest one with the play tray). I love it! I almost go the space saver, because they are more cushy, but they are also harder to clean. The booster has been awesome for travel. I love it so much more than my big Graco high chair that I used with my other kids.

I have two of the white plastic ones from Ikea. We have a very small house and space is always a consideration when we purchase anything. I really like these high chairs. They are smallish and they stack on top of each other when not in use. They wipe clean so easily and don't stain. I had an expensive highchair for my first son with a padded cover and a 5-point harness. It was awful to clean and the cover got very stained.
