Has anyone used one of those high chairs that doesn't have a tray and comes right up to the dining table? I'm considering buying a Stokke Tripp Trapp but I'm wondering if it will be a pain to clean up after every meal. With my older kids, I used a regular high chair with a removable plastic tray. It was so easy to take it off, rinse it over the sink and stick it in the dishwasher. We live in a small apartment, so Stokke Tripp Trapp would save some precious space, but I also want an easy clean up.

We have Keekaroos which are knockoffs of the Stokke and I think they're a lot easier to clean than the traditional highchairs with removable cloth seat covers we started out with. When I ordered the keekaroos they had an offer for free trays so I got them (thinking "resale value") and we've ended up using them a lot more than I thought we would.

if you have an IkEA they have inexpensive high chairs that dont' stand out like a sore thumb and you could hose them down -- all one peice of formed plastic with a tray. cheap cheap cheap. Great for travel too.

I'm at my mom's house right now with two high chairs that have trays that are hard to take off. I HATE them!
I think it's much easier to take the tray off and clean it in the sink and then wipe down the seat. The trays have a rim around the outside, so you can't just wipe it towards the floor or your hand. I think it would be easier without the rim, but still a pain. I like to keep mine at home pretty clean, though.

We use the Ikea high chairs and we never take the trays off. I just spray and wipe with a solution of bio dish soap, white vinegar, tap water and a few drops of tea tree oil (some solution I use to clean almost everything around my house!). They can be put directly up to the table when you feel your kids are ready to eat without a tray. The legs come off easily to take in the car, etc. And the best part is the price - $24.99 and then about $5 for the attachable tray! See: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30069724

I have Stokke and love them, used them since 6 months of age for all 3 children. It's easy to clean because there aren't any small areas where food can get stuck, so just wipe it down (and wipe the table down). Sure food can fall on the floor, but tray or no tray that will happen. I don't like the IKEA ones for one major reason, the legs come out soooooo wide, I keep tripping over them, they take up (relatively) a lot of space, but I liked it for outside. I now also have the FP Booster Seats and use those for travelling and they're even easier than the IKEA ones!

I have the Euro II's from one step ahead. We really love them, they are nice to look at and very easy to wipe down. The only thing i don't like is the seat belts, but luckily my kids stay seated pretty well. If you've got kids that try to clime out a lot, they probably aren't a good choice..

We have trayless high chairs and I love them. I wouldn't do it any other way--they've always been at our table part of our meals. The greatest thing about them is we got them when they were about 9 months old (previous to that they ate in their stroller!) and we are still using them and will continue to do so for some time. We had them custom built (but I showed pictures I'd printed off the internet to the carpenter. The stokke chairs are more expensive, but well worth it as you will continue to use them well into child hood.

I think the Ikea chairs look nice and are a great deal. The one thing to keep in mind is that the kids' legs will be dangling. After a while that gets uncomfortable for most people (try it). Having a place for their little feet to rest seems to keep my kids in their seats longer.

We use resturant/wodden highchairs. Nothing is eaiser to clean and they are cheap. We put a splat mat under them for quicker clean up and the height is perfect for the table.

Thanks for the feedback! I thought cleanup would be hard without a tray, but it sounds like that's not a problem. Thanks again, everyone!

I purchased three of the restaurant style wooden highchairs that slip right under the table on line from a restaurant supply house. I paid I think around $30.00 for each chair - all wood and that included shipping. I ordered them one day and they were at my house two days later. They have been wonderful. They're great for infants on up. You simply turn them upside down and an infant seat will sit in it for feeding or turn it right side up and it has the strap ins for toddlers or older children and slides right under the table. I love them - also since I have three of them - just like at the restaurants they stack one in the other and take up only a small space when not in use.
