i have been reading a lot about twin pregnancies and i have found that a lot of people are unable to see their babies at 5 weeks, just a sac really with nothing in it. I am having twins (hopefully) and i had an ultrasound the other day. i thought i was nine weeks. however the technician saw one baby and told me he measured at 6 weeks and 4 days. alright... has anyone else had an experience with an empty sac at about 6 weeks and then had a healthy baby? does it sound right for one baby to be big enough to see but not the other? Thanks. also - mommies of twins - are there any of you who did not have morning sickness?? i have not... Thanks!

My expirence probably isn't what your looking for, but when I was pg with my now 3 yr old dd i had a gush of blood and went to the dr the next day. they did an u.s and I had 2 sacs, 2 fetal poles, but only 1 baby with a hb. I had a vanishing twin. I was 6 weeks. I know that they should have been able to see both sacs.

Did you have a transvaginal u/s or an abdominal one? That could make a difference..

Also most twins aren't always the same size. So it could be possible you have one measuring a week or so behind.

I did not have any m/s with this twin pg..I only got sick with my dd after I lost her twin.

    Best of luck to you

Mine is a little different too...

I had an u/s at 7 and 11 weeks and only saw one baby. It wasn't until 21 weeks that we found out we were having twins. I was incredibly sick with all of my kids. It started with the twins around 7-8 weeks.

I had my first ultrasound at seven weeks and we saw ONE baby and ONE heartbeat. Imagine our surprise two weeks later when we saw TWO babies and TWO heartbeats. I never had morning sickness so I couldn't help you with that one.

I had my first u/s at 7 weeks. At that time there were two sacs, but only one heartbeat. The other sac had something in it, that measured smaller than the baby with the heartbeat, but the doc just said that it would reabsorb into my body. So she told me to come back in two weeks to make sure that it was gone.

Sooooo, at 9 weeks, we went in and were happy to hear that there were two sacs and two heartbeats. They were still measuring about a week apart.

At the time of my first u/s, I was experiencing mild morning sickness. But by my 9 week appt, I had it pretty bad. BUT, each pregnancy is different and all moms, whether they have one, two, three...babies, they all experience it to different degrees.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope that you get the news you are hoping to hear at your next appt.

My experience was the same as the previous poster. We went in at 6 1/2 weeks, there was one baby with a heartbeat, and a second sac, measuring about 5 weeks with nothing inside it. The doctor said that there was very little chance that anything would come of the second sac. 2 weeks later, imagine our (and the doctors) surprise when there were 2 healthy heartbeats, although Baby B was still measuring about a week behind. 2 weeks later (at about 10 1/2 weeks) both babies were the same size, and have stayed that way until now.

    Good luck.

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks. We saw 2 sacs but one sac looked empty and there were no heartbeats. A week later, I had twins on the way with two beautiful heartbeats.

I didnt have a u/s until 13 wks and only because I requested one because I suspected twins! (motherly intuituion right??!!) But I can coment on morning sickness. With DD #1 I was sick ONE day no kidding. With the twins I thought I was dying for about 17 weeks. Right around the time I really started to feel movment it started going away. My sickness was also more headaches than puking. Heres hoping for the best for you!!

My situation isn't quite the same -- we had one u/s at almost 6 weeks, and only saw one sac, and one yolk sac inside it (no baby- no second yolk sac) -- at our next ultrasound at 7w1d - we still had one sac -- but it had two babies each with their own yolk sac. I don't know why we didn't see the second yolk sac the first time. Also, baby b has always measured 2-3 days behind baby a.

I had first u/s at 7.5 weeks and we saw both sacs and h/bs. One was measuring a week smaller. We then had weekly u/s and by 11 weeks the little guy caught up and were measuring ahead from then on.

    GOOD LUCK.

I went in for an ultrasound at 7 weeks and there was only one baby. I even told the Dr to double check because I was pretty sure I had to have at least 2 babies if not 5 or 6 because I was so tired! He laughed but did look around, for a while just to make me see that there was only one baby. I even told my husband, that I had to have lost one because I knew there were at least two babies. He laughed and said maybe this means it's a girl (we have a son.) So every appt after that there was only one heartbeat and I asked about why I was getting so big so fast. They said it was because my son wasn't two yet so my abd. muscles just seperated earlier letting my uterus fall foward, making me look bigger than I was. (Hey I'm a nurse and I work with my OB who am I to question him.) We decided we didn't want to know the sex of the baby and my dr said that he wanted to do my ultrasound earlier (since I know how to read them and would be able to tell the sex.) So at 16 weeks, we were ALMOST done when the second head popped on the screen!!!! I thought I had a two headed baby!!!! That's when we found out we were having twins. A few days later we had a level 2 done and found out they were girls.

About morning sickness..... I was 5 weeks the first time I got sick. I had it much much worse with my son (getting sick 4-5 times a day but it didn't start until after 9 weeks.) This time it was very different because I had no warning. I would get sick anywhere and didn't even have time to make it to a trash can. (With my son I ALWAYs made it to the bathroom.) I hope this helps.

If your gut tells you that you are having twins, I would trust my gut and wait two weeks before worrying.
