Hi. New Here.

Hi. I'm brand new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth and I'm 33 years old. My husband and I have three boys, ages 5, 3, and 21-months. We are expecting boy/girl twins and my 40-week due date is April 10, which makes me currently 20 weeks.

After three totally normal pregnancies, this one has really thrown us for a loop! First, it was unexpected (but we are very excited about it), then we find out it's twins! At 15 weeks I woke to find myself saturated in and gushing blood. At first I was diagnosed with complete placenta previa, but since the bleeding has started to heal the u/s looks more like it was a subchorionic bleed above my cervix, and not the placenta. So that's great! But I was put on bed rest, where I remain. I'm still bleeding (not much), but have hope I'll be allowed up again soon.

We had a questionable first trimester screening on Baby B (the boy). He had an increased nuchal fold measurement and my bloodwork came back very undesirable. We were given odds of one in nine that he has Down Syndrome. At our recent Level 2 ultrasound they found one marker for Downs in him, a hyperechoic bowel, so our odds increased to one in five. We are against the amnio, so we won't know for sure until they are born. They are concerned enough to have scheduled us for a fetal echocardiogram in four weeks. I'm just praying he doesn't have serious heart or other health problems. I see a home nurse once a week for progesterone shots to help prevent preterm labor.

So, that's where we are now. Bleeding, bed rest, positive prenatal testing, you name it. All in all we are still very excited about the babies and can't wait to see their beautiful faces. I'm really nervous about preterm labor. I am dying to at least get to 24 weeks, then 28, then 32 ... you know. I hope to get to know you all. I was thrilled to find this site.

I had lots of bleeding thoughout my entire first trimester--just like you said gushing. Very scary stuff.

I'm sorry you've had such a scary pregnancy so far, so I'm praying for a happy healthy ending in, oh, about 18-20 wks or so!
