    Hello mommies-

I just found this site today. I am a twenty-four year old married woman. In July of 07 I suffered from a miscarriage at 4wks 6days pregnant. It was the worst thing that my husband and I ever had gone through. Two months later, we found out we were pregnant again. At our six week ultrasound, it revealed more than what we were expecting ... Twins! We never believed it would happen to us, but we are very fortunate that god has blessed us. We found out a couple of weeks ago that we are expecting a boy and a girl. fraternal. Their names are Drake Kohen, and Kera Jeanne. I am 21 weeks pregnant, and I am counting down the days until I at least hit 24 weeks. I had to go to a specialist appointment last week because Drake our son, had dilated kidneys. But come to find out they are normal size, so they will keep monitoring it, but hopefully nothing comes of it. I want both of my children to be healthy. Like everyone does. The specialist also told me to watch my sugar and carb intake, because if I don't I have a high chance of developing gestational diabetes. I am kind of scared. I don't know what to eat, or what to drink. Any suggestions? Well I can't wait to get to know all of you. Thank you for taking the time on reading this.

    -Melissa

Welcome, and congratulations on your twins. There are many options in the stores that you can choose from which are low in sugar and carbs. Cheese is always good, yogurt, any source of protein. There are even sugar free options in ice-cream and other sweets. The carbs are a little harder, I love carbs. Avoid breads and pasta and potatoes. I would stick with rice, if you want bread, I would get whole wheat. If you look on line they will have alternatives or you can ask your dr. for a nutrition consult. That would be most helpful. Good luck.

Thanks girls for the welcome replies. Also thank you so much for some food suggestions. It really bites, because I love SUGAR, AND CARBS. I am a pasta and cake kind of girl. :(

How many pounds should you gain during pregnancy with twins? I have only gained two pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. Granted I lost ten pounds due to vomitting everyday until 16 weeks. But since then I have only gained two pounds... but I eat. Hmmmm....

congratulations and welcome to the board. I have never had GD but I know it would be hard to stay on that kind of diet while pregnant with twins.. the cravings are outrageous. May I suggest that you get a recommendation to a nutritionist the has experience in dealing with expecting mothers of multiples. That is of course if you are diagnosed with GD at some point.

The suggestion on how much weight you gain during a multiple pregnancy differs so widely. My mw said she would like me to gain about 40-50 pounds by delivery. I am 13 weeks and have gained 9 pounds but I had no morning sickness so I have done nothing but eating from day 1. The weight gain will come.. try not to worry to much about it.

Haha! Yes the weight gain will come. I just weighed myself, and I've gained 5lbs... since pre-pregnancy. Your so lucky that you haven't had morning sickness. I am glad that I am over that.... well I still throw up from time to time, but not every day anymore. Thank god :)

ok.. so let me see.. you lost 10 pounds from morning sickness? did you gain that back + 5.. if so thats a very healthy weight gain.. IMO..

I know exactly how lucky I am.. with my last 3 pregnancies I was sooooo sick for 20-25 weeks... my last one was 25 weeks of puking every single day. I lost 15 pounds with her. I actually kept thinking that I was having twins this time but was saying to myself "you can't be having twins.. you would be dying with morning sickness".. surprise.. I really am blessed as I have seen some of my friends (on this board and IRL) going through some miserable times with m/s in their multiple pregnancy.

Yes I lost ten pounds, gained it back and put on another five :). Ewww I am glad that I am not puking everyday for 25 weeks. I feel for you. Good thing that's over, and these babies are being nicer to you :p.

I look like I am about 8 months pregnant too! It's weird, that you haven't gained that much but we still look like we are so pregnant. I am loving my belly, although it hurts sometimes... it's so tight and it's hard to breath. I am just anxious to see what I am going to look like at 7-8 months pregnant!!! That should be interesting :)

For pregnancy nutrition, you can't go wrong with fresh fruits, vegetables, protein, and some whole grains.
