I've posted before that my kids have never been interested in tv at all. A co-worker suggested Hi-5 on Discovery Kids network awhile back. Well this weekend, we tried it for the first time, and the boys sat staring mesmerized at the tv for the whole episode. I've never seen them sit still for that long, ever, for any reason! Now I have mixed feelings....I used to be kind of happy that my kids weren't into tv, but at the same time it is nice to know that something can get them to sit still for a minute! Anyone else have Hi-5 lovers?

We found out about the show from a friend whose child is the age of my kids. And, they watched their first episode around 2, and they still seem to enjoy it.

When my kids were the age of your kids, they would watch Signing Time! videos which taught us all to sign. Those are great. I think Hi-5 is a good show to watch - teaches them about imagination, moving their bodies, among other things. And, the signing videos are great for getting them to communicate with you before they can talk. I recommend them highly!

Thanks! We've actually watched some signing videos with them, and they didn't keep their attention at all. They're good for us to learn the signs, but the boys weren't interested. But we didn't watch Signing Time specifically, so maybe those would be better for them.

They also weren't interested in any Baby Einstein DVDs or Sesame Street or Sesame Street Beginnings DVDs or any animated tv show or movie we've ever put on the screen. It's not as though we've been trying to force them to watch tv, but maybe once a week we'll put on something new just to see if it grabs their attention. Hi-5 is the first, and so far only, thing that has. I don't know what it is about it....maybe the bright colors like pp said? I think maybe they like the real people, as opposed to cartoons? No idea, but I definitely like pp's comment about it helping on car rides. We have a road trip planned in May, and I think this will definitely help now that they're out of the stage where they just sleep in the car. It's also good to know that kids older than ours are into Hi-5, so the videos should be a good investment.

my kids LOVE hi-5! But I didn't know that anyone else was watching it until now. They are mesmerized by it. It is truly a lifesaver. I know my kids love the music and dancing and I find myself singing the songs. Definately would be perfect for a car trip! They sell dvds and cd's and also have a website you can check out.

Okay, so now that I know there are at least a few of us, I've heard that they are not filming new episodes and that they're just going to keep running the old ones (probably until they get too old and then just let it fade away). I saw this on some website, but I don't have the link. Anyone know anything about this? Now that there is actually something they like, I don't want it to go away!!

My boys found Hi-5 at about 1yr old. Before that they both could care less about the TV, They loved them for over ayear and a half(now onto Mickey and Courious George). At the time they started watching HI-5 Alex was having a bad time sleeping and would wake up SCREAMING at all hours of the night. Well Hi-5 was the only thing that would calm him down. It was so funny I only had to play the first 2 notes of the song and he would be quiet and watch the whole show. I could try everything to calm him, but only Hi-5 would do it. I bought a dvd for our trip to Florida and it was a life saver for us.

Hi 5 is a great show for even for bigger kids as well...also what about the wiggles...and Brum (the car) .. my 21 month old kids love all of these, I find that they have bouts of what they want to watch, its Wiggles for about a month on end and then thats it they dont want to watch it anymore for a couple of months.
and yes I sort of think real people the kids seem to like better..Brum is very cool...

My girls love Hi-5... Victoria sings with - more of a hum really and Athena dances to the songs. It is always educational, only half hour and that plus Barney is the only the only tv they watch.
