And all I can say is OUCH!!! Elizabeth has such a tiny mouth, so I'm having trouble getting a good latch. My LC came the other night and that is the only session I feel like she's latched well. My milk came in Saturday and I'm very engorged. I finally pumped this afternoon b/c I'm so afraid of getting mastitis! I hope my little princess catches on soon! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Congratulations Melissa!! I've been thinking about you all weekend. A girl? What happened to the boy vibes I was getting?

My boys' mouths were so tiny at the beginning, I was sore for a good month. Slather on that lanolin!

    I'm so happy for you!

It seems I read in the Dr. Sears baby book how to get them to open their mouths really wide. Maybe you have one of his books? I can't exactly remember the technique, but I do remember that once they got their mouth wide open, you practically slam them onto your breast  -but it worked! I had a 4# 3oz. one and got pretty desperate there at the beginning. Keep going! I know it must be hard with your 2 little helpers around, too.

Congratulations! I am right there with you and the tiny mouths! I'm almost relieved when they cry because they open so much wider than when they are calm! I'm sure their tiny little mouths will get bigger all too soon...

Reyna, maybe that was it! You wait until they cry, then pull them to you. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Congratulations on your new little one...girls are so sweet! My youngest DD had a small mouth and it took a while for the soreness to go away. You're doing great!

If it makes you feel any better, Brandon was a big boy (just shy of 9lbs), and he knew what he was doing and it still hurt like heck everytime he latched. Does it hurt the whole session or just when she gets started? He would hurt (to the point of toe curling) right at the beginning but it would quickly subside, well until I had a let down which was actually painful for me. The pain lasted a good couple of week, but I knew I was going to breastfeed as if my life depended on it so I just kept going. Just watch for cracked nipples and keep the Lanolin coming.

Congratulations Melissa!! I love the name Elizabeth. If the pain gets real bad ask your LC about what you could take to ease it a little.

Don't your older two seem like such big kids now??

Thanks girls :) Things are going alot better today. I pumped some yesterday just to get more comfortable and that really helped with our latching issues. Elizabeth even slept from 3:30 -7:30 am, so I got 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep (after 3-4 of constant nursing ;)). She really is a good baby. She doesn't really cry at all and seems content just to be fed and burped! She is also pooping up a storm! We went to the pedi today and she's back up to about 1/4 lb under her birthweight and was cleared for jaundice  My nipples are very sore (and a little bloody), but I got some gel patch things and am slathering on the lanolin. Thanks for all the replies!
