My DS is pulling on his ear a lot. He has just cut his first tooth. Could this be a result of teething? He doesn't have other ear infection symptoms: no crying during feeding or when going down for sleep. What do you think?

My DD did this a few months ago. I think she had just found her ear. This may be the same thing.

Ear infections are so tough. I'd love to have one of those otoscopes (?) so I can look in for myself.

I would take him in to the ped, just so you can have peace of mind. It'll take some time and a copay, but at least you'll know.

It's normal. Our pedi told us to look for it when teeth were coming in.
    Congrats on the teeth[IMG]

Jake constantly pulls on his ears, causing me to think he has an ear infection. He just has gunky, waxy ears that usually need to be cleaned out with every well baby visit. If there aren't any other symptoms, I wouldn't worry too much! [IMG]

My DD has been doing it too lately. NO other symptoms either. I am glad you asked this question. She is cutting her eyeteeth. One came in last weekend and the other is about to break through too, so I guess it's teething!!!

I just had the doctor check Lila's ears this week at her 6 month check-up because she had been pulling on one of them (she's also had a cold, so ear infection was my first thought). Her ears were fine, but the doctor asked me if she was teething because babies often pull on their ears when teething. I guess I had forgotten that...my memory isn't so great any more! [IMG]

Both of mine pull on their ears when they are teething or tired. We just had our first Ear Infection this week and he wasn't pulling on his ear at all, go figure. He had a bad cold and tha't why we took him in, ended up being RSV and an EI

yea my girls do this a lot because they are teething. Just part of the game. I have had their ears checked every month, but considering the fact that it started when they teeth started cutting I have just chalked it up to that. If your instinct says to get it checked though I would do it.

We just got back from the ped over this same issue. Jack was pulling on his ear but also teething. He has an ear infection, and is about to cut his top two teeth. I would bring him in if he is acting different then normal. That's when I decided to go. We didn't have the common symptoms just a little cranky. Good luck!
