    Ok,
This took me back a bit...

A Dr. we had never met, walked into the exam room and without any introduction or ANYTHING...says..."Sooo, these are IVF babies??" :80:

Maybe it's just me, but seems a bit odd... :umm:

    Anyone else get these??

I would have snapped "that's not any of your business!". I didn't have IVF babies but that's just RUDE!

Nah, they're just regular babies. What's an IVF baby? Does IVF stand for genius or something? :p

If only I could think of something to say when people blurt out strange things like this! I really don't mind telling people my babies were conceived through IVF, but I get a little tired of people acting like they are different than "normal" babies or something because of how they were conceived. They look at my babies strangely as if expecting me to pop open a panel on their forehead and shut of the cry switch

edited because I can't type today

    rude definately...

you could have replied, "why, is that relevant to the care you're going to give them?"

Exactly. <_< It's not like IVF babies are treated any differently.

That was totally stupid. What does it matter? It's not like they are any different from any other infants. Some Dr's have a horrible bed side manner and don't think of how something sounds before they say it.

That is extremely rude! What difference does it make to him?

FWIW--the risks of certain conditions, especially some genetic conditions are higher with IVF, so there is a little relevance. Although not so relevance that it would be the first question you ask.

Ok, first...the Mod photo's are really cracking me up!

thanks guys...and it wasn't even really a question as it was more of a salutation. But she was the same dr. that gave one of our boys albutural for his wheeze, and when we asked do we give some to Christopher IF he starts to wheeze (because he's showing the same timeline with this bug) she said no, (which is fine), so i asked do we bring him in? she said "no, ryan will just be a wheezer"...WTF???

    AND...thought this was funny.
when she asked us if we wanted one of her business cards so we could remember her name, and I said "no thank you"..she said, I'll give you one anyway, they have my boss's name on it, i didn't think it was worth to get my own when I'll be leaving so soon"...

again...WTF??? Oh and she wrote in their chart that they were 9mths old...what an idiot!

Needless to say we are changing practices...this will be our third time...ugh...i'm beginning to think it's just me...can people really be this stupid?

I say RUDE and sorry you have to change practices. I would have looked at that doctor and said "a baby is a baby, whether IVF or natural conception" and then I would have packed up my kids and got the heck out of there.

I don't mind when people ask me if I went through infertility treatments because we needed medical help to get pregnant, but this was blatently rude for you. It reminded me of the peri. we saw when pregnant that kept pushing testing and then told me that I should abort an downs baby if the test showed a possiblity of downs. I looked at him and said "we were taking whatever god gives us." We got up and left and never went back. I did file a complaint with the hospital, but it went no where. I think some medical professionals just have a cold attitude.

i was going to say the same thing. i have had more than one doctor ask me if the twins were fertility babies (esp. at the neurologist). it is relevant in some cases & i have gotten asked just as often if my singleton was conceived through fertility treatments when seeing specialists. however, every doctor has said "hi, i'm doctor so & so. nice to meet you" first. i guess the level of appropriateness of the question itself would depend on what kind of doctor/what type of treatment you were dealing with. the appropriateness of the lack of patient manner & inaccurate recording of important info doesn't- it's not acceptable. switching is probably a good idea.

I totally get knowing if they are IVF babies for health/genetic reasons...but the fact that those were the first words out of that doctor's mouth IRKS me. That is so rude and makes it sound like they are different than all other babies out there...which of course they aren't, they are BABIES! How about hi, how are you, now let's see here...oh, these babies were conceived via IVF, right?"...much better. Such cold bedside manner...glad to hear you're switching practices...

LOL! If your slapping me for lack of capitalization, I could say she was a "lowercase" Dr. but the real reason is, I didn't have my glasses on while I was typing! LOL
My dh (err...DH? heehee) actually made the comment that my nose was going to get burnt from touching the monitor on the computer while I type! :rotflmbo:

That's asinine! Sorry you're having to change practices again.

I know it's a little hike for you but, I've had nothing but fantastic experiences at Concord Pediatrics!

I've gotten that question a few times, too!

That's when I explain that I got pregnant while BF'ing my youngest and while taking the mini-pill. That usually shuts them up!

But I agree, they shouldn't even be asking!!!

    Hi Angela,
We actually thought about Concord, it's really just as close as Lebanon...only about 35-40min. Would you mind PM'ing your doc's name?
Have you been to a MOM meeting lately?

Thanks again everyone for valadating that for at least this issue, I'm not crazy! lol~!
