That's a good article but I think in the heat of the moment I would be that person when my child says she wants a new mom - I would say well I want a new kid. I know that's wrong, but sometimes when we're mad or upset you don't think before you talk.

 

Thanks for the article- very informational. I run a daycare and have run into the "you're not the boss of me" incident before. Very helpful responses that I will definately implement if that situation happens again with a fiesty 4 year old little girl that comes to my house.

one day when my 12 year old was about 7 - we were on the highway on our way home - he was very mad because he wanted us to stop and get something to eat but he had been acting SO bad that taking him anywhere else would have been pure torture for us!!! Well he says
I want a new family!!!! dh being very familiar w/ the area we were in pulls off of the highway and pulls into a driveway (the house was
4-sale and empty but Tad did not know that!) and says ok this will be your new house and family!! that child straightened up and has never said that again nor has he been that bad in the car since!!!!
it was not the right thing to do - but it worked!!

 

That was very insightful, my 7 year old has turned into a Drama Queen King lately and I hear "You're not my favorite parent" and "That's not fair" A LOT.

I've said that to my 7 year old and he NEVER said it again. Afterwards, I asked him how it felt when I said that to him and why he'd want me to feel that bad. So I have to disagree, it works! But then I am also known to throw myself on the floor in full tantrum when my son had one of his rare ones. He laughed and tantrums became VERY rare!
