Here I am... on bed rest

I went to the Dr for a routine cervical ultrasound (I have every 2 weeks). I was at 3.6cm 2 weeks ago and then suddenly yesterday I was at 1.9 cm. My OB admitted me to the hospital for observation and another cervix check today. I was put on procardia and a Peri was brought in. I was told that if my cervix lengthened I could go home and if it shortened any more then I would be in the hospital. I was not confident with the sonographer today at all. She took multiple measurements ranging from 2.6cm to 1.7cm. The Peri said he looked at all the images and it was 2.48 cm. That seems like a huge discrepancy from yesterday. He said I could go home but didn't even put me on strict bed rest. He said I could make breakfast, hang on th couch and even go shopping.. REALLY? I just had a dangerously short cervix and I can go shopping? I think I will be following very strict guidelines until I see my OB and have the next cervical ultrasound next week. But regardless... here I am... still weeks away from a safe delivery and a Peri that I really don't like who said he expects me in the hospital again and to not make it past 23 or 34 weeks... That is discouraging. I will do whatever it takes. I am nervous about being home on bed rest. We have 6 kids and the youngest is not going to understand why mommy can't do the normal things. The older kids can help but I am concerned the stress of not being able to run my family will be hard. My husband works from home but is gone 2 days a week so those will be tough days. I am glad to have a laptop. I just don't know how to get through all these weeks doing nothing.

's Just so you know, a cervical measurement will fluctuate pretty drastically in short periods of time. It's clear that you don't have an incompetent cervix or you would have had the babies by now. They will keep an eye on any contractions you might be having and encourage you to take it easy, but they don't want to freak you out because it's important for you to feel hopeful and as non-stressed as possible. Vent whenever you need to! Bedrest is difficult but oh so worth it.'s

It's true that different sonographers take different measurements... depends where they start from, finish measuring, etc. And your cervix can change (just like the dr said, if it lengthens you can go home... so it can change!)
So try to take it easy as best as you can. But if the dr isn't too worried about it, I would try not to be either. I know that's easier said than done though!

Good luck, I would take it easy and put myself on bedrest if I was you. It is hard but so much better than NICU.
