her hair is falling out!

Can anyone think of any reasons for this to be happening? I noticed the past week that there is hair on her sheets in the morning and her hair looks a little thinner. I know she doesn't pull out her own hair and checked at day care and they said she doesn't do that there either. After I mentioned they said there is hair in her bed there as well after nap time.
Any ideas what could be behind this? She had excema but that has been under control since she was about 9 months. Dh has been using shampoo on her for the past couple of weeks (before that it was just water and once a week a very gentel aloe product). Could that cause it? I'm definetly going to ask dh to stop using anything on her so we see what's happening. Anything else I should be careful of?
We're seeing the pedi Friday so I'll ask him as well.
    Thanks so much!

yikes...I know I've heard of this before, but I don't remember the cause...I hate to say this...but maybe try googling it?

Thanks for your post Susana. I don't dare goggle it. I'll end up obsessing about a whole bunch of terrible things. I'll wait till the visit with the pedi if I can control myself. I talked to dh about the shampoo and he sais he hasn't been using it so I guess that's not the reason...

:hug99: I agree with waiting until the pedi appt before researching. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I knew of a little girl in a kindergarten class who had something called alopetia (or alopecia). Not saying that this is what your dd has but thought you might want to read up on it. I hope it turns out to be nothing. Here is the article:

Catherine used to rub her head on her sheets and on the bumper in her crib. She would rub her hair off! She did it in her sleep. She had a bald spot for a while. This year she actually pulled her hair out, but that was totally different! I bet she's rubbing it on the bed in her sleep. Maybe you could put a little hat on while she sleeps. Would she leave it on?

I would bet that she is rubbing it on the sheets as well. Is it an all over loss or does she have a bald spot?

    Thanks for your posts.
The loss isn't that obvious yet to say where there's more of it. No bald spot. This morning she was asleep when I went in and I definetly heard her rubbing her head on the mattress. I had never heard her do that before. I hope that's it. I wonder why she does it though. do you think it might be a stress thing? She's a very active girls and I wonder sometimes if it's too much for her but she just doesn't know how to chill.

Is she eating very well? If she isn't getting enough that will cause her hair to fall out.

I think she's eating well. She's gaining weight nicely and has a variety of food in her diet. It's a good point though to go over with the pedi and see maybe she needs any supplements or a change in her diet.

I'd talk to the doctor on that because it could mean she's not getting enough of something in her diet it could even be a gland thing. I doubt it's from shampoo or exzema.
