Hi, I am new here. I am 10w3d pg w/ twins (fraternal) conceived through IVF.
I have just had my second bout of heavy bleeding. The first was memorial day weekend (I was 7w5d) and I went to the ER. They found both hbs and diagnosed as threatened m/c and sent me home. I saw my RE three days later. He said he saw the hematoma that caused the bleed but it wasn't between the placenta and the uterine wall. Does that mean that it isn't subchorionic?
Anyway, I had my second bleed early yesterday evening. Much worse than the first one b/c I passed a bunch of clots and it lasted much longer. I went to my OB who still found both hbs. I am going for another u/s today with the radiologist and then back to my OB.
I of course am worrying myself sick about this. It seems counter-intuitive that a pg could still be OK with so much bleeding. I have read about subchorionic hematomas all over the internet and it seems like a lot of people still go on to have healthy pregnancies and most of the time the SH resolves itself.
But having this while pg w/ twins is making me more worried b/c I fear that it increases the risk of early labor.
Thoughts? Looking for some reassurance (sorry this has to be my introduction over here!!!)
    Hope

    Hi Hope,

I concieved my twins naturally but I had the same problem early in my pregnancy. At about 8 or 9 weeks I had bleeding and went to the ER. They didn't know what it was so they said the same thing, threaten M/C. On the u/s at the hospital and Dr. everything was fine both babies had perfect heartbeats and looked good. The bleeding stopped and a few weeks later it came back. I don't know if this is just something some women go through with twin pregnancy or not but I have ran into a lot of people that has been through this also. I am almost 23 weeks and may babies are fine. At every u/s that have good heartbeats and looke good, I had about 3 or 4 episodes of bleeding but no more. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for everything to be ok. Hope everthing goes well at your appt. ;)

    Shasta

i am now 19 weeks 4 days pregnant w/ fraternal twins via ivf. i bled like you every week from week 7 to 13 (and spotted brown blood all the days in between) w/ trips to the drs for an u/s after each bleed. so that was 7 bleeding episodes, heavy, passing clots at times, etc. it was really scary each time, but at 12 weeks 5 days i had the last bleed and the spotting slowly went away after that. at 18 weeks, the dr couldn't find the hematoma on an u/s; it had resolved itself (and it had been big, almost 3 cm). i just wanted to reassure you that my dr said hematomas are the #1 "innocent first trimester bleeding" and she sees these alot and these types of bleeds usually resolve themselves and are more common w/ twin pregnancies. i was told to be on modified bedrest while i had the hematoma, and to lay down when these bleeds happen. and also pelvic rest (no sex, lifting heavy things, etc). good luck in hang in there!

I also had heavy bleeding through out my pregnancy. I had spotting throughout, but at 14 weeks had my first "major bleed" which led to a 3 day hospitalization. Turns out I had placenta previa (I had it with my last singleton too with the same bleeding) and a marginal abruption. I have on-off bleeding throughout the remainder of my pregnancy and would literally be gushing blood. I was hospitalized from week 20 to week 29 for PROM and TTTS, and during that time I was transferred to L&D 3 times due to heavy bleeding. They finally took my boys 12 hours shy of 29 weeks due to the combination of problems, plus I started passing golf ball sized clots during the night. It was scary but today my 30 month old twins are perfectly healthy. :) It is more common than you would think. I also had this happen with my 3rd singleton -- heavy bleeding starting at week 14, bled through until he was about 28 weeks along, and delivered a perfectly healthy baby via c-section at 37 weeks.
