I found out that I'm having twins and that I have an incompetent cervix (0.5cm) during my first ultrasound, at 19w2d. They put me on modified bed rest for 2 weeks, then they changed it to strict bed rest because the cervix got shorter (0.2cm). At my 24w2d ultrasound they said that my cervix is between 0 and 0.2cm and that I'm 2cm dilated. They sent me directly to the hospital to monitor me and to give me steroid shots. That happened this past Friday. Two of my doctors (the clinic that I go to has too many doctors!) said that I should stay in the hospital until I reach 28w and, IF nothing changes, go home. They said that anything can happen and they don't want me to give birth at home.Yesterday a new doctor came and asked me if I want to go home. He said to watch for contractions and call them if something happens or to come to the hospital. He said that it is my decision. I decided to stay for a few more days. Don't get me wrong! I want to go home, but I want to hold them inside for as long as possible. I'm totally confused and scared. I can't tell every contraction and that scares me! What do you advise me to do? Thank you!

I'd stay in the hospital! If those babies come early, they'll need NICU intervention immediately and you will already be at the hospital. Bed rest is hard and hospital bed rest isn't fun at all but with your cervix and being dilated already, I wouldn't walk one foot out that hospital door if I was in your place.

A lot of girls on here have been in your same shoes and have made it a lot farther along. Don't lose hope!

Given your situation I wouldn't be going anywhere. Literally. I would make them kick me out. Your babies need every hour you can muster in you.

I would stay in the hospital until they kick you out. Seriously - you can't get that kind of bedrest at home. I know it probably sucks, but hospital bedrest sounds like what you need to keep those babies inside you for as long as possible. goo dluck

I'd probably stay put in the hospital until 28 weeks considering you have very little cervix. It seems like you are high risk to deliver early, and I would want a NICU down the hall.

At 24 weeks, my cervix had dropped to 5/6 mm with funneling and some dilation. I stayed on strict BR with my hips elevated above my shoulders. After BR, my cervix would sometimes be 1.5 cm, but it changed with every measurement. My OB wanted me to stay in the hospital until at least 28 weeks or longer. My MFM wanted to send me home after one week in the hospital. I was afraid to go home, but he convinced me I would be less likely to get an infection at home. When I was home, I was terrified from weeks 25-28. I followed the BR orders very strictly. Sometimes I worried so much that I couldn't sleep. It ended up working for me as I made it to 36 weeks. But I was in and out of the hospital another 5 times with PTL.

If you have a toddler at home then I would stay in the hospital for now. I think you might be tempted to do a few extra things to help your toddler. You really need to rest and focus on staying in bed.

Have they given you p-17 shots? My MFM told me they are clinically proven to help in singleton PTL cases. They haven't been proven to help in twin pregnancies, but some MFM's think they can be helpful.

I'm sorry this is so scary! I can relate. Feel free to PM me if you'd like. Beth

If I were you, I would stay put. This way they can closely monitor you and if god forbid anything happens, you are in the hospital.
